Oil on the garage floor-Can you believe it
« on: July 13, 2021, 12:49:45 PM »
In the words of Monty Python, "Now for something completely different".  I just picked this up as birthday present to myself for my upcoming 72nd.  1967 Triumph T100C, yes it is the same model used by the Fonz in a couple of seasons of Happy Days.  Runs decent, recent rebuild 40 over, new pipes, and other assorted goodies.  Of course I will personalize it bit.  It has been a number of years since a vintage Triumph graced the garage, heading to Wally World shortly for some extra paper towels for the floor.  Damn glad I kept those Whitworth tools

It wouldn't be period correct if it didn't leak a little.

I recently did a bunch of work on my buddies 64' Norton Atlas 750. It definitely marked it's territory while here. 8)

My 71 650 Lightning bitsa minds it's manners by not marking it's spot in the garage.

The old Nortons and Triumphs have a nice sound.
Long time ago I heard them.

One guy I knew had a Norton Commando with Dunstall body kit without fairing. It had good handling. I loved its sound.

The Brit Twins have a particular smell after a ride, a combination of hot aluminum and gear oil.  I had forgotten that.  I went to hook up a Battery Tender port this afternoon, and thank God a few of the old brain cells still function, positive ground came to mind.

Little by little I am starting to make it my own.  Fat trail tire on the rear, still need to do the front but I believe I have a weeping seal so waiting on a stanchion tool before jumping in.  The exhaust extensions give just the right sound between shifts, and of course every Brit bike needs a Union Jack somewhere.  Sure it drips a little oil, but it is a blast to ride.  After buying British again I fully understand how the Japanese took over the market so quickly......

Ha!  So with that "enduro" tire [what we always called 'em] will you be doing much dirt riding?

The guy that bought my Sandcast new traded in a big BSA kick start bike. He wanted the electric start since he was about 115 lbs soaking wet. I'm glad his BSA was difficult to start.

A proper British machine is just not complete without a "Pedestrian Slicer".

Just about got it where I want it.  Knobby front and rear, front slicer installed, and just installed new front seals to solve a slight weeping issue.  I forgotten how much different spinning wrenches on a Brit bike is than Japanese.  Tolerances are so much more unsophisticated and everything is pre-lubed with engine oil, but damn is it a fun ride.........

Looks good Britman!   But the question is: Will it see some dirt?!

Reminds me of my 1970 T100S I was riding when I bought my wife her ‘77 400F. The Honda was so much better than my Triumph, I went straight out and bought a ‘78 cb550K. Never looked back....

Sure does look pretty though. Mine was a weird purple colour, almost the same a a FORD Maverick, at the time.

I dropped the bike off yesterday to an old friend in North Carolina who is a vintage Triumph guru.  He will be going through the motor from top to bottom and I know in advance it will not be cheap, but it will be done 100 percent correctly.  He has done work for me years back, his guarantee, the garage floor will remain clean.  It is overkill, but occasionally as you travel through the world of two wheel ownership you just see one that really floats your boat, my free board is well above the water line with this 100C.....
