Small gas leak- cb500
« on: July 14, 2021, 03:43:10 AM »
Just pulled carbs out to clean them. Bike runs great, but there's a small gas leak coming from this little brass tube (from carb #2). Don't know what the brass tube is called or how to remedy it... any help?

Also a possibility that that brass pipe has cracked inside the bowl.  Then it will leak at any fuel level.

Might leak also if you don't shut your petcock off after riding. Good advice above though.

If it leaks in any situation other than when the bike's lent over on it's side then you have a problem - usually a worn needle valve or something stuck in there preventing it from closing properly. I haven't turned off my fuel for years as my fuel T o rings shrink and start leaking when I do (once the fuel in the lines is used up through float bowl evaporation which takes days or weeks to happen).
I have never leaked a drop since I stopped turning off the petcock.

ps I know the hand book says to turn off when not in use but they assume you have correct type of fuel T o rings fitted!

-EDIT-
Sounds like you have a sticky float bowl.
