CB500K1 Clicking on clutch being released
« on: July 17, 2021, 10:19:07 PM »
Hi all,
My bike is making a nasty clicking/clunking on releasing the clutch on take off. I thought it was caused by the clutch rod pusher impacting the chain and it replaced the rod, pusher and ball bearing but the noise persists.

The video isn't great because I just upped the idle so I could film as I released the clutch but you get the idea.

Taking off at a higher rpm doesn't eliminate the noise but just speeds it up.
Thanks guys!

Have a look at the inside of the clutch cover around the guide plate around the adjuster. The master link might be nicking something on it's way around.

It was broken in 2 but I replaced it with a new one.

I might need to pull the cover off and see if it's hitting anything but when I had it off last time it was in perfect condition.

The noise also goes away when the clutch is fully out. It's only in the transition as the bike starts to move, once riding there is no noise of anything hitting.

So you had the right side clutch cover off to retrieve the broken piece of shaft? And the clutch basket off? Maybe something in there not quite right. On my bike, I discovered the broken rod had been assembled with the ball bearing between the two halves , not at the adjuster end. Maybe same thing had been done to yours and there's a ball bearing floating around you may have overlooked. Just a thought.

Lol a ball-bearing in the middle? Far out some people are mad

Yeah I had the clutch basket off and didn't see anything out of the ordinary. I need to try and narrow down the noise further, I think it's on the left hand side but sounds inside the motor. I will try get a better video

Think it was common to clean up the break, shape the ends slightly and slip an extra ball between the broken bits. But you also need to retain the ball at the operating end. Seen a couple and used one for years like it.
