It was Fifty years ago today……

20 July 1971 was the day I picked up my nice shiny new CB750 K1 in Valley Green Metallic, I can remember it clear as day, I traded in my 1970 Triumph T120R, the salesman took the Bonnie for a test ride and came back white faced saying it had No brakes, I didn’t know what he was talking about? I clearly remember riding away from Scott’s Honda Artamon in Sydney, on my new K1 thinking I was sitting on top of double decker bus and wondering how the hell I was going to steer it around a corner. Well the years have ticked over and it was time for a facelift, and I am happy to say she is back on the road today fifty years on.

That's an awesome Anniversary! Good to hear you still have it too! I was still riding a CT70 at that time and dreaming of having a bigger 90cc or being on a huge dirt bike like the ones I'd see riding at the dirt track down by the river or at the motor cycle shop I often rode my bicycle to and looked at big bikes. I didn't get to a Honda shop until I got my license in 1972.

Prior bikes....
1972 Suzuki GT380 I had charge of it for a year in 1973 while my friend was deployed and learned to love street riding....
New CB450 K7 after my friend returned...
New CB750 K5 Planet Blue, demise by ex cousin in law at 9,000 miles...
New CB750 K6 Anteres Red, to replace the totaled K5, I sold this K6 at 45k in 1983, I had heavily modified it, many great memories on it and have missed it greatly.....

Great story! Good to hear you still have it.  Sorry the Bonnie had to go.  I sold a T120V after 41 years. I still haven't gotten over that one. (Divorce)

Tom..... I’ve only had my K1 15years. Wish I had your smarts in 1971! At the time I was wasting all my time and money on a Cooper T76 single seat race car that was already old and uncompetitive.....

Thanks everybody, I am a person that needs a deadline to get stuff done, with too many projects, I am very happy to get this one done, had a couple of small teething problems, inc a fuel leak from what I thought was the fuel tap but after a closer look, it seems my original paint gas tank that I bought on eBay 20 years ago had been dropped at some stage and the fuel tap had pushed a small dent in the tank where it screws on. So some draw filing and got it to seal again, Problem fixed next, this is where knowledge from my trade fitter machinest, from years ago has helped me time and time again, I feel the young ones are missing out on this stuff as so little is made here anymore.

My K1 went thru many different stages, first was to add a second front disc brake then extended forks, a Rex Windsor custom paint job, big bore kit, 16” rear wheel etc.

 Good story. I helped a fella with a top end rebuild that had a similar story but his was a K2. Funny thing is he had somebody else do the rebuild but didn't trust the work and had me redo it without even starting the bike. I really wasn't interested in doing the work as I was very busy BUT after hearing him talk about buying it new from Razee's in Rhode Island I couldn't turn him down. ;)
