CB500four - Electrical issues
« on: August 13, 2021, 07:08:54 AM »
Hi everyone, brand new guy here!

Since the Covid thing, I've decided to focus on the rebuild process of my Cb500four.

Now i am at the electrical verifications stage. Bought already new switches, a wiring harness everything that i needed since my bike was really a mess....

But, i have an issue, a weird pattern when turning the bike on, and the lights that should be available and are not.

This is what i have:

So... if i key to ON position i have:
- Brake light if i press
- blinkers if i switch
- horn if i press
- Headlights (no light, low beam, high beam) when selected

If i key to ignition i have:
- brake light always ON
- no blinkers if switched
- no horn if pressed
- no headlights if switched

Can someone help me to find out why this is happening to me?

I really need to make sure everything is actually connected properly, i know that, but based on this... what can i do?

Thank you

ON is correct and all you need to ride, what you call ignition is probably parking mode.

There are 3 positions
Off-  self explanatory, key will come out

On-   everything works, key wont come out

Park-  sidelights are on, nothing else works, key will come out

I don't know what is ment by side lights. Our bikes have none. The IGN switch is a bit confusing: the word IGNITION is next to the dot that actually is the P(ark) mode. In that position the key can be removed and the tail light - NOT the brakelight - should be on. So everything seems fine. Just check the tail light is on in P mode and NOT the brakelight. In P mode, some markets also have the 4Watts Ba9s position light in the headlamp lit. The more reason NOT to use P mode, as it will quickly drain the battery.
Lusopack, I don't know what model CB500 you have. Anyway, here are some Owner's Manuals: http://www.honda4fun.com/materiale-documentazione-tecnica/libretti-uso-a-manutenzione
To identify your model, compare your engine- and framenumbers to those listed in the first 4 pages of the various parts lists. They are all here: http://www.honda4fun.com/materiale-documentazione-tecnica/parts-list/parts-list-cb500
If you happen to have a European K2 (the model that has three fuses), I can supply you the appropriate wiring scheme.
Bemvinda!

Thank you all!

Really!

My bike is a direct USA import K1 (named wrongly in Portugal by the regulators at the time a K2). I've confirmed the engine and chassis codes already.

It only has one fuse!

So, i really need to check the key mechanism (that is also new from csmnl) and play with the key really!

And, to clarify, the bike works only in the ON position, am i right?

I'm not sure... are you communicating a problem? If so, what is it?

Language differences

Park=side when talking about lights

In UK there are two conditions
Twilight-ok on sidelight
Lighting up time-main/dip required

Annnnnnnnnnnnndddddd it's solved!

Thank you guys for clearing up my mind and helping me understand the key positions and what is the behavior of the bike.

Already managed to crank the starter.

Now it's time to assemble the engine and prep this beauty!

Cheers guys

Congrats! BTW, we love pictures. In the UK site, in Aladdin's Cave under CB500 you will find a lot of interesting docs, including the original Honda Shop Manual CB500-550 in an excellent resolution. Recommended. http://info.sohc.co.uk/
