Matching paint for ‘73 CB500 four
« on: October 24, 2021, 02:50:23 PM »
I tried to search for information about this, as I’m sure it’s been discussed many times, but my searching skill is weak.  I didn’t find what I’m looking for.
I’ve got a 73 under restoration and buggered up the tank.  I relined the tank and failed to seal the opening, which allowed fumes to damage the paint on top top.  Heartbreaking as the paint was in pretty good condition.
I’ve read in the past that original matching paint is not available, but surely there must be someone with the skills to repaint the tank and replicate the color.
I’ll appreciate hearing from y’all about how I can restore the original look of my old buddy.  Candy Bacchus Olive Is what I’m trying to restore.
I found VMR paints, who appear to offer matching paint, base, candy and clear.   Has anyone used them?

VMR is better with metallic paints versus candy paints.  Candy paint is very tricky to duplicate stock brightness, as the more candy you apply the brighter the hue.

Thanks for that.  I’m not equipped to do the painting, so I’ll search for someone with the skill and facility.   I’m in western MA.  If anyone knows someone who can do these, please let me know who and how to contact them.

For the brown color I used 2013 Honda tiger eye pearl. It isn't a perfect match but easier for a painter to apply and is gorgeous. I'd take a look at those Jeep colors.
No matter how many times you paint over a shadow, it's still there.
