Good exhaust for cornering
« on: July 30, 2021, 12:38:37 PM »
Hello everyone,

I am currently running a cycle x exhaust, I don't know which one, but it sits out rather far on the right side of the bike. I have been starting to scrape the pipe in turns that I would not consider extreme. I am wanting to take the bike to a track day and I am sure I will run out of lean angle almost immediately. (Pipe is the one in my profile pic). I love the way the pipe looks and sounds but if I can't lean the bike over then what's the point.

What is a good exhaust, preferably stainless. Looking for 4-1 or 4-2-1.

I have been trying to search the sight for references but it seems a lot of links are old and no longer work. So where can I go a have a look at whats out there? Cycle x exhaust page doesn't seem to have anything, motogpwerks doesn't have anything that I can see, there is the carpy pipe that seems too inexpensive to be worth while? Is it stainless or something else?? The only thing I have been able to find as of late is RRR/Hidle which looks great but I want to know if there are any options I am missing??

The bike is a 78 cb750f with 836 weisco pistons, cx2 cam, high rev springs, mikuni rs42 carbs. At the moment the head is stock but I do plan on a port job down the road. I have rear sets where the passenger pegs are and I am not running a center stand (I don't even know if the bike originally had one). One big perk to the RRR is i don't have to remove the pipes to change the oil filter, are some pipes not like that?

Thanks

Pewe, thanks for always responding. I have read a lot of your posts on that exhaust. Not only do you like it but a few other around here do as well. It is probably gonna be the one I go with. I was just also wondering if there were any other pipes I was missing.

Thanks!

Difficult to not answer when I have experience of the subject or have read about it somewhere!  ;)

I have noticed that one answer can make others to answer too. Lets hope more replies will follow.

Old style 4-1 had often not that good ground clearance. The collector could be fat with 2x2 pipes in a square or hanging too low.
Hindle is much slimmer a few mm under the oil pan.

I bought both lenghts of mufflers just for sure. I use the longer. Kemp at Rimrock racers said it produce better power.
I do not need a louder sound ;D
I got 101 whp with it last year. 1005cc with ported head might have helped too ;)

Here 2 photos of my Hindle 4-2-1 earlier this year.
I think it will look similar on an F bike.
There is a choice for F bike.
Ask Kemp at Rimrock racers for details if you think about to order one.
He helped me when I ordered.

Old scrambler, I will call Ken and let him know. Speaking of carb size, the rs34 was on ken's recommendation.  I know that some (most) may say it is on the "large" size for an 836 kit but, I will say it performs great and better than the stock coffin tops that came with the bike. At least to my untrained hand it does. I get that a dyno run may show different. It was a nightmare when I first put it on with a major flat spot but after some re-jetting it is great. Although it is running slightly rich. I have more work to do...

Now back to exhaust, Pewe, I have emailed them with a few questions and am waiting for a response. I appreciate the photos, it is a good looking pipe!

One more good thing with stainless steel pipes. If jetting is wrong making pipes bluish.
Correct jetting and polish the pipes. I used a used grit 400  to make my pipes good.  Some rides and back to bronze tone.
Muffler is isolated with wool so it stays cool, no bronze tone.

I will be interesting to see the dyno chart with those RS34 on 836.

The pipes that are on now are stainless and inhsve no bluing, granted they are not polished. They have that bronze golden hue to them.

I should dyno the scoot, one of these days I will and post the findings. I will probably wait until I port the head though ::)

I installed the MotoGP Werks exhaust on my "Park Racer", I think I would be sliding on the ground before it rubbed the asphalt!

I dont see them available on his website but you could call.

Thanks

Steve, I saw these. I will keep them in mind. Thanks.

A guy who lives down the street has that motogpwerks pipe as well. He also loves it.

Does anyone have any first hand experience between the motogpwerks and the RRR/Hidle?

I did read a post where the RRR was not back purged  when welded. This is probably not an issue on these sohc as they don't vibrate as much but a stainless pipe that was not back purged on a harley will for sure brake eventually.  I have not herd of the RRR braking on anyone.

If one is indeed back purged (I think I am using that phrase correctly) then that will most likely be the deciding factor.

Thanks

A couple options from Japan...Yamiya has a great looking hand bent Yoshimura replica, as does the other big repro parts seller (sorry can't think of it right now)  And tons of old stuff like RC and Kerker on ebay usually.  The pipe you have is a sidewinder, and is designed for drag racing.  Look for a pipe that has the collector under the engine as opposed to along side, and a good amouunt of upturn to the tail pipe.
If it works good, it looks good...

Sean, I looked into their pipe and now I feel spoiled with all the other options as they want over a grand for their pipe. I will say it is by far the best looking.

RRR said they do back purged their pipes so I will probably end up with that one... it looks like a site called 2wheel.com has the hindle RRR for a few hundred less than buying it direct?? Hmm...  ???

A proper back purge is important on SS.

I run the 4-1 MotoGPWerks pipe on my race bike. It's tucked well further than the bike will lean with sticky race tires. It's light and inexpensive for the quality.

RRR site is Canadian dollars, right? This might account for the price difference. Shipping from RRR might be less than a US seller...  Best to put it in the cart and figure it all out ...
