do you loob your toob?
« on: August 01, 2021, 03:22:39 PM »
my throttle was sticking so I took it apart for cleaning and also to lube the cables.

looks like someone dumped grease on the cable ends and there was a bunch of filthy muck between the tube and the bars.

Haven't reassembled yet as I'm going to take the opportunity to strip the rust off the handlebar and repaint, and replace the battered grips, but on my previous bikes I never applied any sort of grease to the throttle tube.

Hence my question: do you loob your toob?

Not me, clean and degreased then some fine sandpaper if the bars are pitted.

One trick after sanding and degreasing the bar is to scribble all over the bar with a pencil with as much coverage as possible then add your clean, degreased throttle tube over that.

Or add some powdered graphite if you have that handy.
Oil or grease will eventually attract dirt.
