Stop light 1976 550 F
« on: August 05, 2021, 01:38:15 PM »
Hello,
My stop light does not work when I actuate either the front or the rear brake. The tail light works fine. I thought it was a bulb problem, so I changed it to a new one but no difference. Where to look next to solve the problem? Interesting enough I have the same problem on my 1975 400 Super Sport.
May it be infectious :)
Thanks for the advice.

Should be a green wire with yellow stripe feeding the brake light circuit. Confirm that when that wire gets grounded, the brake light comes on (tail light).

Go to switch near kickstart and follow switch wires into rubber boot, black should have +ve 12v with ignition on and if so and you connect black and yellow/green light should work

Additionally, you can grab a multimeter and check to see if you’re getting power at the brake light wire when you actuate the brake pedal/switch (this will eliminate the possibility of a bad socket and/or if the bulb is bad/incorrect).

If you don’t power at the brake light, then start working your way back along the wire, checking every connection until you find where you finally get a hot wire.
