1982 CB900F -- My first DOHC
« on: August 06, 2021, 02:45:46 PM »
I've been wanting to get my hands on an early DOHC and just got this '82 CB900F with 18K miles. It's in fairly good shape but needs some TLC, which I'll do over the winter.

You only go around once in life so it might as well be on a motorcycle.

I've got one the same color also. They go down the road pretty nice. Haven't ridden it yet this year as I noticed the rear brake master cylinder shaft has stuck again for the second time . Needs attention there when I get motivated to ride it.  Enjoy !

Nice 900F, I wonder how often it's mistaken for a late model CB1100 with that tank badge?

I think they are mistaken more for a cb750F, especially that color as they made both in similar color schemes.Think the tanks etc. are interchangeable as well though not 100% sure.

I wonder how they compare to a Z1. They sure look great. Can’t beat Honda Fit and finish.

We have both a 900F and a 79' 750F. They look very similar but ride very differently.

It has never been mistaken for a modern CB1100F, that I've been aware.  I added some parts from a 900C, and chose to not put the original stripes on it when I painted it.

I have ridden 750F0 & F1. the DOHC 750;  this machine rides smoother and has considerably more power.

I had a guy who put the 900 tank & side covers for a 900 on a 750, had I not looked at the serial number on the motor, he might have fooled me as I was not familiar enough with them at the time I was looking.

I bought this one as a non-runner for $300, spent about $2K and 200 hours cleaning, painting and making it a runner. My most interesting experience was when I took the disk rotors with the parts to be nickel plated.  Guy said he could plate & heat treat the whole rotor, it would stand up to breaking...he was wrong.

Pic of a 750. The silver/blue version of the 750 looks like the 900 also. Wonder why Honda ran the close color scheme on both the 750 and 900 ?? Save money on paint and decals  :D

Honda must have had a lot of black and orange paint on hand back then because they used it on several bikes between 77 and 83!

Honda cars for many years would not offer black cars while many American buyers requested them...
