I used a similar digital dial indicator to degree in my Megacycle cam.

How to set a cam without open the valve cover and adjust cam sprocket when IN open at correct degree when opened according to spec, often 0.04" (1mm) ?
Good idea to verify IN, EX open/close to get the complete picture.

Maybe a photo to show the tool only?

PeWe, I was just double checking the timing as we were drinking a lot of beer!!! You do need the valve cover off to access the slotted cam sprocket.
OK, that"s understandable!
Getting a 2nd thought about a build can be cheaper to check asap and correct if needed.
Frank's frame kit has helped me with those thoughts!! ;D

Valks are neat bikes. Sort of a 75 Wing all inflated up.
Torque forever.
Wait, Terry, weren’t you going on about a reduction in the stable?
I think therapy is needed.

Ha ha, thanks Steve, the Valk isn’t an additional bike as such, because I swapped my spare Triumph Rocket III for it, and I did sell my F2 this week, so technically I am thinning the herd, if we don’t mention the ex-Milwaukie police Harley FLH that’s being delivered next week….. ;D
I was feeling sorry for myself because I couldn't afford new bike boots, until I met a man with no legs.

So I said, "Hey mate, you haven't got any bike boots you don't need, do you?"

Thanks Bill, I've been busy with my other bikes for the last couple of weeks, but that's a good thing, because I got to thinking that maybe, just maybe, the gear that meshes with the kickstarter gear might be worn too, so I bought a new one a couple of weeks ago. It arrived at my shipper in Sarasota Florida on the 22nd of November, and was picked up by Fedex on the 24th. I believe the gear is now in Sydney (where my muffler has been since the 14th, grrrrr.....) and hopefully it'll arrive soon.

Bottom line is I have a week of Christmas holidays from the 13th to the 19th to get the T500 engine out, and swap the guts across into the new cases, and back in again before I have to stop all bike work and concentrate on cleaning up the house and yard for the holidays. If I can't achieve this because the gear hasn't arrived, then I won't take it apart until after Christmas, as I have to clear the patio out for our Christmas Eve BBQ. ;D

Terry, Christmas will be here before you know it...
24 days away ...

Hope the parts show up allowing you to do the work so you can put a pin in it...
Gonna need to put a second story on your shop to maximize the workspace... Parts upstairs on mezzanine with an elevator to allow ease of moving heavy stuff between levels. Cable driven lift shouldn't be to hard to fabricate would it? Besides, as we age helpful tools to reduce risk of injury are desirable...
Maybe just a boom arm with winch and basket to get them up and down would be more realistic. 2nd level certainly would make more useful space wise...neighbors might not like though, nor city.
David- back in the desert SW!

it will be great to see the 500 all tidied up and running.
I think you need professional help with your addiction, I know some people that do this but it's expensive unless you want to trade some bikes for the help:-))

Thanks Bill, I hope so too, but I’ll have 5 weeks off work over the Christmas break so have plenty of time to finish both Suzuki’s and my Z1-B, which has been waiting in the wings for too long now. ;D

Thanks, I'm trying to find time every day to accomplish at least something on this one.

Good luck with your supply chain, 5 weeks is a solid chunk of time!

Yeah mate, after our 262 days of lockdowns over the last couple of years I’m more interested in riding than wrenching right now, but will try to maintain some interest, especially in the Z1-B so I can ride it to all the “50th Anniversary” functions next year. ;D

Yeah I hear you, I've gone without a ride since the end of 2017. But I suppose that's more on me and my situation than anything else. I'm expecting lots of riding in 22.

Wow, 4 years without a ride? I’ll stop b1tching about my situation, I’ve done 30 100(+) mile rides on my two CB750’s, and another half dozen or so on my non-CB750’s so far this year, and I hope to get a few more before 2021 is over. ;D

Well Fedex did the right thing today (although they haven't delivered my fcuking muffler that's been in Oz since November 24, the pr1cks) and delivered the NOS Suzuki gear that meshes with the kickstarter gear, so I guess I don't have an excuse now, I'll have to pull the ol' Suzy engine and do me some fixing........ ;D

Thanks Alan, I bought a Hindle exhaust for a CB750 from OEM cycles a month or so ago, but it arrived without a muffler so  they sent me one, but it’s been sitting in a Fedex warehouse gathering dust. Not happy Jan…. ;D

A word of caution Uncle Tez. Pay particular attention to the crank seals.
We raced an air cooled TR hybrid in the early eighties and I can't remember how many pistons we burned because of a dodgy seal but it was a lot.

Cheers,
Brian

Thanks Brian, I’ve replaced the two outer crank seals, but didn’t want to split the crank to replace the centre seal. I’ve ridden it a few times so I’ll give it a good looking over when I open the engine up. ;D

Yep it's the outer seals that are the problem.
