Topic: Best material for brake rotors?

Thinking of going to a machine shop or CNC shop to have them make some custom rotors…

What would be a good material for one piece brake rotors?

Stainless steel? Carbon steel?

 Cast iron is best but they rust. Sickwillie i think has a source and can machine them.

Search the ebay seller, there are other options.  It’s RPE from Australia.  We organized last year and had a bunch made for a number of us.  Matt, Brent Waller, myself, and others.

Like 754 mentioned, they rust.  Few OEMs came with cast rotors back then.  Ducati did I think.

cast iron would be my preferred option for disc material but getting a pad compound that will work with them is getting harder

People talk down about the stock material, but my single disk is enough to outbrake bikes with twin disks into the corners routinely. That said, it is pretty hard on pads and if I had the choice, I would have 2 up front as well, but rules are rules. Cast iron might be better overall, but the stock one sure is good and doesn't rust. A race bike is a tool, but rusty parts make my skin crawl.
