Front Brake replacement options and lockwiring question
« on: August 09, 2021, 12:24:51 am »
This is my first post so please let me know if this has been answered before or shouldn't be placed here.

I have recently purchased a CB400f and plan to turn it into a race bike.

Does anyone know of a proven caliper upgrade over the standard front brake assembly?

Also does anyone know of pre-drilled sump plugs and oil filler caps for the 400f available anywhere?

Thanks in advance
e

A quick internet search on oil sump plugs will list a host of options (titanium, aluminium, with or without magnet, holes etc.)
Just be sure to select your specific thread (M12x1.5 as standard per Honda) and here are a few examples:
https://titan-x.com/m12-sump-plug-118-p.asp
https://www.cmsnl.com/honda-cb400f-general-export-kph_model14637/aluminum-drain-bolt12mm-magnetblue_0908002/

I think most caps en plugs for a Honda will work, regardless of the exact model it was intended for.

What class and org are you racing with? That will dictate what can be done to keep the bike legal but make it the best version it can be. The AP caliper provides incredible stopping power even with a single disk on the CB750 so should be plenty for your 400.
All you gotta do is do what you gotta do.

I think 'pre-drilled' refers to safety-wire.............do your own............practice by making a sharp dent in any nut securely fastened in a vice.....then use a small drill-bit to begin a shallow hole.........then a larger bit to drill at an angle for about an 1/8-inch. Repeat from the opposite side of the 'lug' and connect the hole.........expect to break a few bits until you get the hang of it ;)

yes if you are unable to drill a sump plug building a race bike may prove difficult .

i share some of Simon's concerns, but hey, nobody was born knowing, right?

just sounds like you have a very steep learning curve ahead :)

ttr400 forum member was deep into 400s, might help out with advice, but important to know where and under what class/rules you intend to go racing
