Petcock replacement for 1977 CB 750 F
« on: June 12, 2005, 10:23:24 AM »
Any one have any suggestions for a petcock replacement for the CB 750 F.  I can either track down the same make and model, or just find a replacement that fits the tank.  This is my mane mode of transportation at the moment so I don’t have a lot of time to let her sit.  I suppose I could find a replacement then search for the OEM part and order.

In any case, can I just head to a Honda shop and ask for ???????  Part?

The petcock is discontinued, I believe.  There was a thread here some time back about how to rebuild it.  I looked for it the other day, and couldn't find it, but it basically involves drilling out the rivets that hold the plate on, then drilling holes in the body to accomodate sheet metal screws.  Make a new gasket, (the rubber one with 4 holes) to replace the one inside the petcock, put the washers and handle back on, and secure the plate with sheet metal screws in the holes which you drilled out.

It sounds pretty simple, but I have one apart on my work bench, and no idea what to use to make the gasket from.  Any help out there?

I too am looking for the rebuild info, as I have 2 bikes down with leaky petcocks, any info would be greatly appreciated!

76' and 78' F models are the ones in question.

I can handle the re-threading of the rivets, just need a source for the rubber parts!

thanks!

try some NEOPRENE synthetc rubber - local supplier - but making it up will be a PITA unless you have a pattern to work from :)

76F petcock is still available. Strainer for the petcock is also available. Service Honda. Just got one for my 75F. Same bike. This petcock has 2 screws holding it together. No need for drilling. Parts would be cheaper if you could find the right pieces.

Thanks! I'll be dropping by the honda Dealer after work!

I still wouldn't mind rebuilding my other 2 leakers though, you never know when you may need em!

I too was wondering the same thing.
My K5 is in need of a petcock, I see them on ebay from time to time.
I am curious if the "F" and thr "K" models use the same part?
Also wonder how much the "stealer" is gonna gouge me for this one? ???

http://69.213.66.54/TSWEB/Default.htm  This will get you to Service Honda's parts system. The part numbers are the same for my 75/76F and the K3 - K5.  $51.35  16950-341-671

You might want to call your local dealer with the part number to see if it's in stock and how much.

I know on my little CT90 I replaced just the rubber gasket inside with the 4 holes. If you could measure the diameter of the rubber gasket, I can check the one from my 90 and give you a source to just buy that little gasket.

Hey, I measured my "quatrholio" gasket on my 78 750f and it is just a hair over 13/16". Is the ct90 close to this? Just get them from Honda? Thanks for any help. This part is not serviced for the bikes with the riveted petcocks. And I think the petcock is discontinued?
The thing about common sense is that, it's not that common.
