Final drive shaft swap
« on: August 11, 2021, 07:06:37 PM »
I am failing at searching on this one, wanted to see if someone might have an answer. I have a K4 frame and a K7 motor. No wheels yet and the engine is completely apart. I know there is a 10mm offset for the front sprocket, my question is will a pre 77 output shaft with its bearings work in this engine? It looks like the O.D. of the oil seals are the same at 62mm, the bearings I'm not sure about. Just seeing if I can tackle the offset problem now while the engine is apart before getting wheels and using the other methods.

Also, is it unusual for a k7 to have double retaining ring groves for the output shaft bearing? I thought I read early models had it so single row or double row bearings could be used. Mine is double grooved in upper and lower case halves.

I recently read a post about just this. So there is some info on it somewhere in the forum. Hopefully someone that definitely knows what needs to be done will chime in.

Curious about the double groove ring. My 78 cb750f case also has the two groove rings but ony had one clip in one of the grooves. The parts diagram also only show one ring. I have always been curious what that other ring was for.

Thanks, from that post I think the bearings probably wont line up correctly to make it work.
