Looking for parts sources for oddball Keihin PD41A parts
« on: August 27, 2021, 10:57:34 AM »
Deep cleaning a set of very dirty PD41A carbs for a '77 CB750 K7 project and found parts not shown in the factory parts fiche anywhere. Throttle shaft opening in the carb body has a bushing that fell out after an ultrasonic cleaning. Carb was so dirty I didn't notice the sleeve or the felt dirt seal that sits between the sleeve and a lip in the shaft opening on the carb body. The gap in the throttle shaft opening photo is where the seal goes. These parts are from the #1 carb although the seal in my hand is actually from the #4 carb. The #1 seal was ruined by the ultrasonic cleaning. Finding the sleeve and soggy fiber blob in the parts basket was my first clue there was something I missed when I took the carb apart.

The other part not shown in any diagrams is the small white semi-circular plastic bushing thingy that clips into a groove in the choke shaft.

Looking for sources to buy replacements for the felt seal and plastic bushing if anybody who has replaced these before remembers where they got them. I'm thinking someplace sells this type of seal in a close enough if not exact size.  The white plastic things will probably have to come from junk donor carbs since those look to be pretty unique items. Didn't see them in any of the vintage 750 parts or Keihin parts sites.

You can make your own felt seals.  I did it when I rebuilt my GL1000 carbs.  I used a set of cork borers and sheets of felt.  It is tedious but it can be done.

What kind of felt did you use?  Generic craft store stuff?  Never knew there was such a thing as a cork borer!  Looks like I can buy them individually for fairly cheap in the ID & OD sizes I need if a razor knife or homemade punch doesn't pass muster.

Check out Mike Nixon's site much too tedious IMO to make your own, when there are a number of sellers of these felt kits for cheap.

Nixon's site sells them for $5 a seal!  McMasters sells 1/2" round felt cord for @ $4 for a 5' length.  Convenience comes at a price like usual.  OD of the seal is 14mm which is right about 1/2".  Thinking I'll give the cord a try since I need four seals.

Thanks for the help!  Great to have the two options.

Bummer!  The little plastic bushings are still good but it's always nice to have extras in the 20 year drawer for what ifs.
