Ya thanks, I’ve seen this series- very well produced. It’s interesting how he uses just one gauge and the manifold. Don’t think I’ve ever seen that technique.

Is it common to sync at over 2k? I’ve been doing it at idle; thought that was the idea.

Not common [or necessary?] to sync over 2K RPM, I also just do it at idle.

I have not herd good things about using just that one gauge. I see some appeal as your using the same gauge but seems like a pain...

I thought you synced at around 2k and then re checked it at idle?

I also always sync at idle - at over 2000 rpm, well, I can't see it working as effectively with the lower vacuum at higher revs,

It was a common practice back in the 70s to check the 2,000-3,000 rpm level after at idle set per Honda techs of then.(as long as you used the dial gauges and not the Mercury gauges......)

because changing one carb affects the others...turn one down and watch the other three go up or maybe only 2 or 1 or maybe not at all...so one gauge at a time becomes even more of a frustrating exercise in futility than usual

I have no experience with a one vac. gauge set up, but I don't see why it shouldn't work. If differences in vac are not that far apart, it is a sensible and economic way imo. If differences are widely apart, it could be a bit difficult however.
Having said that, please note that readjusting the vacuum is rarely required (see below what Honda states in the Owner's Manual). First do all the other sceduled maintenance - in particular the ignition - and I bet most of you will have a nice running engine again.
