hello from MN
« on: January 22, 2007, 06:18:51 AM »
I'm Matt & I'm from East/Central MN (North Branch/Taylors Falls area).

I have a 73 CB750 with a sidecar attached.  I found this site while looking for info & I seem to have found a lot!  I am currently doing maintenance on the bike - cleaning carbs, timing, synching, lubing all bearings, etc.  I'll be adding a oil cooler & maybe some other minor work.  It wont be modified any further - just want it to be reliable & a fun ride.

I also have a CB350 (twin) .. which I'm building into a cafe.  I'm smoothing the frame & rebuilding the motor.  I got it as a chopper years back from my uncle (plates show last registered in 81).  Among cosmetic changes, I'll also be putting in some larger high compression pistons, higher perf carbs & other performance items.  Should be a fun, light bike when done.  I do need to find a metal worker/welder in MN to help as I dont have the abilities/tools/etc required at this time.

My daily rider is a Suz SV650 which I use to ride to work & weekend jaunts - at least until the other 2 are ready!

Hey Matt,

I'm about 50-60 miles east of you. I host a sidecar rally here the first weekend in June. We also have a group that gets together every once in a while for rides with our 3 wheeled contraptions.

PM me if you want more info.

Welcome.  I'd love to see pics, too.  I don't think I'd ever own a bike with a sidecar, but I think they are extremely cool.

heffay/burmashave - I'll have to clean the garage up a bit & take a couple pics this weekend.  Neither bike is anything to write mom about at this point & to be honest the 350 has been waiting for me to find a welder.  I've been a little slow!  The 750 has been getting TLC as I can afford ($$ & Time).  I hope to have the 750 ready by spring & the 350 done before next summer is over.

hahnda - Ah, land of the cheese.  My mom/brother live out your way.  I'll PM you about the sidecar meet - sounds like fun.  I havnt ridden mine much yet because it's not set-up properly & a bit scary.  The shocks/forks are weak & it's set-up to lean into the sidecar & it doesnt ride very well at all.  I think after putting in some heavier fork oil, new shocks & aligning things correctly it'll be a lot of fun.

If you need help with setup just let me know. I have set up 4 or 5 since I got into sidecars about 4 years ago. It can be a bit of a pain but once dialed in you're ready to go. There are a few tricks to getting that front suspension to hold up to sidecar use.

Fear naught, if you look around you'll see lots of pics that only a fellow SOHC owner would love. ;)  We tend to see potential.

Welcome mgmuellner.  I am a fairly new member as well.  I too am from the Land of Cheese.  If you get the chance, ride on down to Milwaukee for Rocker Box.  It is usually in Sept, so there is plenty of time to get your bikes done.  It is a a gathering of mostly non Harley owners and a good time.  Lots of SOHC's and other vintage Jap, German, Italian and Brit bikes.
