I’m worried about this new generation. They think Iphone music sounds good…😳
And…
They think their “music “ is music.🙄

Doesnt this happen with every generation?  I remember my Dad asking me what that "noise" was that I was listening to?!!

I've tried bridging that gap with our daughter by bringing her to "cool" concerts through the years such as Tom Petty, Stone Temple Pilots, Black Keys and her fav at the time, Gwen Stefani.

That said, the 70's had the best music!  I dont get the "Swifties Revolution"!!!!

Just an attempt at humor….mainly directed at “rap”. And alleged “singers” on the voice and American Idol…you know, everyone gets standing ovations just because they can hit one long note. C’mon, they can’t beat the vocals of Murry, Ronstadt, Cher, Franklin, Denver, Righteous, Sinatra, Martin, Valli..the list is endless.
Personally, Big band music is still great, but how is that supported monetarily. 4 guys are cheaper than 20.
But you’re right. Even bands of yesteryear I thought were disgusting (stones) at the time, I listen to now.
So generations do that. But I’m not entirely rigid.
And one son is a drummer(hobby)..has a 70’s pioneer SX780 and turntable. Like’s Beatles but is more Nirvana,Foo fighters , Pearl Jam…

Isnt it funny the memories we have of our Dads?!

In 1977 a family friend gave me two tickets to see KISS.  I was only 13 at the time and my parents wouldn't let me go with friend, so my dad took me.  We had great seats.  My dad shoved cotton in his ears, and I remember him having dig it out after the show with a key.  He seemed like an out of place old man to me at the time, but he was only 34!  LOL!  A couple of months later they let me go see Queen with a friend.

My son and I have been to a lot of shows together.  He plays guitar, so it's been acts like Joe Bonamassa, Eric Johnson, Monte Montgomery, Brian Setzer and some jazz and fusion bands.  I listen a lot of different kinds of music.  He was exposed to a lot of variety growing up.

Coincidentally, my daughter was recently offered free tickets to Kiss, the concert was about a month ago in Austin.   She attended with her boyfriend, a guy who's fav band is Dave Matthews, complete opposite from Kiss!  I probably would not have gone if she asked me, they have a couple good songs but not really a fan.

My brother-in-law turned me onto Joe Bonamassa a few years ago but have yet to see him live. He's on the list along with Gary Clark Jr, both are guitar masters.

And FYI -  Joe Walsh is currently touring with the Eagles, they will be in Austin next month. But tickets are crazy expensive [$250ea for nosebleed], so I am on the fence about going. Will most likely be the last chance to see them.

My daughter and I saw the Eagles back in 2002 as her graduation present.  I remember balking a bit as the tickets were $100 a piece.  But she was a good kid and student and deserved it.  It was a good show (I was expecting a bit of a snoozefest. and I could listen to Hell Freezes Over any time I wanted to).  But I remember how the crowd reacted when a Joe Walsh song was played.  After an Eagles song, the audience would cheer for a bit, with some polite clapping mixed in.  When they did Funk #49, Life's Been Good, Rocky Mountain Way, and Walk Away, the crowd would go ape #$%* after each one.  The contrast in reaction was considerable.  Considering the reputation Henley and Frey had as ego maniacs, I wondered what they thought about that.

I just ran $100 in June 2002 money through the inflation calculator and it came up $170 in today's funny money.  Let us know how it was if you go.

The KISS show was a real spectacle.  I was a big fan in junior high.  I was a high school freshman when I saw them.  They started putting out some really bad records after that and I lost interest.  Music was changing with the emergence of Van Halen and punk rock.

When I was a junior in high school I got a job at the Summit as an usher and ticket taker.  I got paid to see so many concerts.  It was great.  One evening I opted to not work the Who concert.  I regret that one.  I got more interested in working on my car and quit the job.  I think it was their last arena tour before they announced their “fairwell” stadium tour.

I saw the Eagles sometime around 1976-77, at Cuesta collage, near San Luis Obispo, CA. It was billed as a benefit for the local Chumash tribe. I wasn't thinking of going, until my sister, who worked at a music store, called me and told me that at the last minute Neil Young was going to appear as well, and she had 3 tickets left, and did I want one? Hell yes!!!
The concert was in the gymnasium, with seating on the floor. I was maybe 10 or 15 feet from the stage, which was only a couple of feet high.
First, the Eagles came out and played a couple of numbers, then Neil came out and did a couple of solo tunes, then the Eagles joined him and they jammed together for a while. It was the best concert I've ever been to!!

 I saw Chuck Berry around 1973, he required to be paid cash and refused to play until paid. The college had a check, and the banks were closed. The backup band was pretty good and kept us from tearing down the bleachers. The promoter finally ran around town getting businesses to cash enough checks and returned with the pay. Chuck finally came out and got booed, played 3 songs and left.

One of my favorite concerts was Lynyrd Skynyrd at UD Arena July 2, 1976.  Small basketball arena, great place for a rock concert!

The outdoor concert later that same year with Aerosmith and Nugent at Eastwood Lake was pretty great too!

Used to get some big names here in Kalamazoo at a Hockey arena called Wings Stadium. Wife saw Elvis there. I saw many shows like Alice Cooper, The Guess Who, Frank Zappa etc.. One cool thing was I went and saw Heart and then the next day I was tooling around town on my CB750. Pulled up next to a long black limo and lo and behold there were the Wilson's sitting in the back and got a little wave - whoo hoo for a young buck !    They were on the way to the airport apparently.

Used to get some big names at the Gibson factory I have heard. A friend of mine had a stepfather here in town who was the H (Holcomb) in GHS strings and when BB King was coming through he would always have dinner at their house. His stepfather gifted my friend a very valuable vintage Gibson electric quitar out of the blue once that he will keep forever.

Yep.  I can’t remember all the bands I saw there.  Let’s see…Kiss, Styx, Queen 2X, Journey 3X, AC/DC 3X, Heart, Ted Nugent, Iron Maiden, Scorpions, Bob Seger, Rod Stewart, Linda Rondstadt, Genesis, Van Halen, ZZ Top 3X, Marshall Tucker, Eric Clapton, Deep Purple…probably a lot more.  Saw a bunch of Texas Jams in the dome.  Saw the Stones and ZZ Top in the dome in ‘81.  Lots more concerts at the Music Hall and Sam Houston Colosseum, like Judas Priest, Triumph, UFO, Krokus, Ozzy with Randy Rhoads, Black Sabbath with Dio on vox, The Stray Cats, The Police, Cheap Trick, Adam Ant, Stevie Ray Vaughan, Eric Johnson…Plus many more at night clubs during the New Wave explosion, before they hit it big, like Pat Benatar, Huey Lewis, The Romantics, Wall of Voodoo…

We used to wait in line outside of record shops all night long to get tickets.

The last big show I saw was Rush on their 40 tour at the Compaq Center.

Thrift store find today. Bought a pair of kind of rare maybe Rectilinear III Highboy speakers. (my wife and I thinks that sounds naughty  ) Lived their life in a church I was told. Big and heavy with nice clean walnut veneer. Date to the very early 1970's. Don't think they are a real high dollar item, kind of a sleeper, but the guys on AudioKarma forum seem to love them. Some big names worked at the company during its rather short lifespan. Do any of you guys also work on your vintage electronic equipment?  It took me a bit of a learning curve, but it's fun and rewarding to bring back to proper working order an old tube receiver or something similar.

I work on turntables -- mostly Technics 1200s where the biggest pain is all of the screws that hold the top to the bottom. But I've worked on some older stuff. I bought a an old Motorola suitcase-style turntable and speakers that worked great, then set it aside for a couple years. Instead of having a belt it had a weird kind of semi-direct drive thing but relied on this weird rubber piece that changed the rpms (78/45/33.3). Not too hard to track down a replacement and it was back in business -- then I sold it when I moved.

Decided I needed to power up the Marantz cassette deck so I drug out this carry case I bought on ebay so time back.  Full of Who cassettes.  If memory serves, I paid more for shipping than I did for the case and tapes.  That was back before vintage audio got popular.  Back then there were some killer deals to be had on ebay.....

This kind of laser disc. This picture was for my oldest grandchild for “Show-n-Tell”..

The format died completely around 2000 in USA 02 in Japan, when they distributed the last movies available on laserdiscs.
There were some 6/23 rumblings that they’re were about to make their 2nd debut….theyll have to make new laserdisc players with more resolution if they actual do re-release any.  the old player were limited to 240 lines..we’ll see.

You have to a higher end old laserdisc player for a good comb filter and then the picture is not as good as what’s current, even when using a top notch upscaler.…

They still have a really good picture, just not as good compared to an actual 4k.  They always had good sound w/wo home theater. i use an old Samsung 65led TV (just before smart tv’s) to view them on. Its has a decent upscaler in it…
Wanting to replace it with a current 85” but waiting to see if they drag the old format back out.. Grand children are young right now so it’s more of a novelty right now. We have all the Disney movies on laserdisc too and that’s their interest for now..

Not exactly Hi-Fi but a circa 1953 Motorola clock radio I found for ~$10 at the thrift store.
I plugged it in long enough to determine that the clock works but it made no sound.
I might try to fix it some day, probably needs new tubes.
