Cold and dreary here in Ohio, typical for this time of the year. It's is however a great time to take stock of vintage stereo equipment!

Way back in the early seventies, this was my main receiver, a Superscope QR-450 stereo 2 quadrascope 4 - 25w x 2 or 10w x 4. Not lots of power, but it is sweet sounding. It has a smooth tube amp sound to it. I bought it at this little boutique shop that mainly handled hi-end equipment. I was still in high school making $1.85 an hour pumping gas at a Sunoco station.
Superscope bought Marantz and moved production to Japan. To do this, they bought Standard Radio of Japan. They then had Standard develop a lower cost series of equipment, rather than cheapen the Marantz line. These were branded Superscope. Both brands were built in the same factories...which these days are known as Marantz Japan.
I've got it running through a set of Sansui S-57 speakers. They are 3 way with 12 inch woofer, 5 inch mid range, 2 inch tweeter. 105 watts max 91db @ 1 meter. They are great rock speakers, but with this receiver they sound equally well with Guns N Roses or Emmylou Harris. Very enjoyable.
