Honda literature says candy gold was one of the colors available. Initially, they weren't known as KO's..just CB 750. The "K0" label was added after the fact.

The gold  bodywork was only available after 19, xxx serial number.
 So....
Z sandcast wearing gold tins has been switched.. but jt could have happened in spring of 70..
 So ...
If it wore those tins since 70, and is documented.. I think that would be best case scenario..

I think at least one prototype was done in gold, i think the Brighton bike..
Long before it was z production choice.,
Now sometimes bikes get tins swapped at dealership at time if sale.
So it is posdible a dealer still had a sandcast on the floor in spring of 70 and a K0 in gold , and customer  requested a swap.  THIS  with Documentation of the sale occuring after gold was introduced, or a receipt mentioning the swap... could be very important..

You want three colors? Only red is sandcast.  Gold has a wrinkle tank, fun topic, this isn't original but who has one that is?

Nice bikes all.
I was a bit surprised and a bit disappointed when Honda switched from gold on gold to black on gold. Probably too much gold for the artists, and the gold on gold is not exactly matching or complementing. IIRC red and blue-green came first, gold a bit later. There was also white on gold on other models.

Edit: this is all from memory, 50+ years past, I’m not a student of the details, please forgive me for changing my story: The red and blue green bikes came first. With gold stripes. When I heard there were going to be gold bikes I expected Gold stripes and that’s the picture that was stuck in my memory until I saw it here gold on gold. And I like it better than black on gold, at least I’m certain of that. :)

I have seen gold/gold but never heard it was original. There is a Brighton bike tribute owner lurking around here, if I recall correctly.

Gold on gold was only used on one of the late pre-production prototypes. It was sold a few years ago and nicknamed the "brighton bike" bike. Not sure if this is the brighton bike or a replica.

I was under the impression the Brighton was gold with white stripes.  I was going to build one until Mark offered me a gold/black stripe tank set reasonable.

The carbs don't work very well in the day.
The brakes don't work either but I guess it does not matter.

There are many different parts that are only specific to the sandcast.  However, when you look at a late sandcast and a K0 machine it's difficult to tell because by late sandcast production many of the parts were the same as k0.  It's pretty easy for an early sandcast vs. k0 however.  I usually look for the left side placement of the horn, round oil filter cover, gussets on the frame, black kill switch, double cut fender.

Here is a video I found yesterday that details a small portion of the differences.

Definitely the left side location of the horn. Carbs with four throttle cables is another easy visual.
