More sad news, Passing of BobbyR.
« on: October 21, 2021, 08:18:41 PM »
I hadn't heard from Bobby for a while, so I decided to send him a FB message to see how he was going, when I saw that his page has been changed to "Remembering Bob". I sent his wife (also named Terry) a message of condolence, and she replied right away, sadly Bobby passed a year ago, on October 19 last year. He had a Prostate Cancer thread here, and Terry told me that it was the cancer that took him, spreading to his lungs, brain, and into his bones.

Bobby was a long time member here, and a frequent poster from 2005 thru to 2020. Bobby was a helicopter pilot in Vietnam, a cop, an avid photographer, and a passionate motorcyclist. He was very proud of his family, and his mom survived him by a month and a day, at age 103, I believe. Bobby was a great guy and we chatted regularly here, and I must admit that I should have kept in contact with him, but as always, life gets in the way and a year passes before you know it.

Terry's told me that his immaculate CB750 K8 is for sale, and Bobby had told her that it was to go to an enthusiast, and not to be parted out. If anyone's interested, PM me with an offer and and I'll pass it on, but please, no low ballers, that wouldn't be cool. Here's the only obituary that I could find sadly, but as he passed a year ago, not unexpected.

I was feeling sorry for myself because I couldn't afford new bike boots, until I met a man with no legs.

So I said, "Hey mate, you haven't got any bike boots you don't need, do you?"

I had the privilege of meeting Bobby a few times, while in Boston for work the local members took him out one night, and then a couple of years later in Rhinebeck, NY During one of the Relay Rides (2011) where GZ was handed off from team NY to team NE. I remember Bobby realizing later that I wasn't riding an SOHC4 and saying he would've offered his bike to me for a few miles carrying GZ. He was a kind and funny guy. Thanks for passing along the news Terry I'd wondered when we'd hear something.

This forum will hopefully continue to live on for decades more. We all might be mentioned here when our time is right for that step.

I need to ride bike 15 years more, plus another 10-15 remember my rides and friendly people here.
I'm on a cool (*C) sunny ride right now, a lunch stop waiting for food. Will continue around 200km more.

Very sad news, indeed. Especially on the heels of the passing of 754, two very well-liked and active members of the forum. I never realized that Bobby R lived very near to me. Perhaps we could have met up for a ride. Alas… Rest In Peace.

Thanks Terry, sorry to hear it but I expected that was the case.  I sent a few PMs his way  last year to see how he was doing and when he didn't respond I figured the worst.  It wasn't like him to not respond.  Another good guy gone but not forgotten.

Thanks guys, I just looked at my messages from Bobby, and saw that the last time I spoke to him was a month before he passed. He was in hospital then, but feeling pretty good I guess.

I had noticed only a few days ago that BobbyR had not been on the forum in a while, then I saw Terrys thread about his passing. Bobby always played along and posted quite often in the Marcia Marcia Marcia thread. This was his last post :( Thank you for serving your country in Vietnam sir. RIP BobbyR.

Bobby was a great guy and I had the pleasure of meeting him a couple of times in NY state when we rode over and also when he came to Boston and met the local SOHC crew. Wish I had kept more in touch in the later years. RIP BobbyR.
