I think it is chrome, at least that is what the one looked like that my Wife had installed a couple years back. Looks like the knuckle joint on a 48 Ford pick up.  Mine is being installed using robotics, the Doc sits and controls the bots as they do the work.  I am hoping to get R2D2 on the team.....

This is what Santa brought me.  Charlie's Place EI system.  I have used his set up several times in past restorations, top notch quality, easy to install, and bullet proof....

Cool project!  My very first Honda back in the early 70's was a 305 Scrambler.  I paid $200 for it.  It was such a beast of a bike coming off a 90cc Suzuki.  The only problem I had at first was getting it to run on both cylinders.  After hours of futzin around with spark plugs, checking timing, coils, it still only ran on one cylinder.  My total inexperience never told me to check to see if the battery was at full charge.  I stuck a new one in and it fired right up on both.  I ripped around on that bike with wide open snuffers for about a year and loved it.  I sold it to get a brand new CB750..which led me forever into loving Honda 4 cylinder bikes.  Fond memories.  Mine, too, had a red frame with silver body parts.  Loved that combo.  Anxious to follow along on the rest of your project.

I sold a 66 CL77 and a whole bunch of spare parts including an extra engine in 2019 (before COVID).  I still have a 63 CL72 (250) ex race bike that was given to me a few years ago.  It needs a total rebuild and will remain in race configuration.  Nice job on bringing your CL77 back to life.

Most of you northern gents would probably laugh at 16+ inches of snow, but here in Virginia we are screwed, blued, and tattooed.  Major interstates shut down for days with stranded motorist stuck in their cars, powers outrages for entire areas, (we went almost 3 days with no juice), grocery store shelves empty, gas lines around the block.  Been kind of busy trying to stay warm and put food in my belly.  It is starting to return to somewhat normal now and hopefully I will get back in the garage in the next day or two....

Got a front brake, speedo, and some wires run.  Went over the 56 year wiring harness also, seems to still be in decent shape.  Going to start getting the bolts lined up, and the frame and motor on the right plane to make them one again....Got to eat my Wheaties for a couple of days first....

Are you going to muscle it in place or put the engine and bike on their side on pads blocked up to heights you can work with to get it bolted in place?
Looks good and motor looks nice  all freshly painted and polished!

I will slide it in with the bike on the lift and the motor at the right height to transfer.  I cover the tubes with with foam pipe wrap, block under frame to the approximate height to get the bolts in place and hope at 73 there is enough juice in the old bones to do one more.  I have never done one with the frame and motor on the floor sliding the frame over the motor.  Probably a hell of a lot easier, but I am set in my ways.  Got to go now, I see some kids on my lawn......
