CB550 ignition issues and life lessons
« on: November 02, 2021, 12:17:06 PM »
So I don’t have anywhere else to vent.

Just wanted to share that after two years of part time wrenching trying to make my cb550 run properly, having endless ignition issues, I finally found that the bolt that holds the points for cylinders 2&3 is slightly threaded along with its seat…so it never truly tightens…meaning you can set the timing and it runs for a bit but then goes out of spec quickly. Can’t tell you how much money and time I’ve thrown at spark plugs, coils, leads, plug caps, points, condensers,  to find that…

That’s bikes and being dumb.

Have a great evening, I’m having a whisky.

When it still doesn’t work after I fix that, I’ll be back on here to rant about it.

Experience is something you don't get until just after you need it.

On the positive side, you now know you have good plugs, coils, leads, plug caps, points, condensers.

Well lessons are sometimes costly..... As long as you learn from them, then you can pass along the life's lessons you learn from to others.

Welcome from across the pond, Maxma.

We have all been there, one issue that I had once was no power on my 550F.  It caused me to turn to Tequila and it was just a bad main fuse, it "looked" good but ultimately wasnt!  I didnt have a spare but have a good supply now!
