Electronik Sachse Digital Ignition Systems.
« on: November 04, 2021, 02:26:16 PM »
I’m using their product on my Benelli 750 SEI. Excellent stuff.

Anyone using their CB750 kit?

No but I want to get one for my CBX. I've heard several people speak highly of the units.

The points on my SEI drove me nuts (there are three sets in the same space as a cb has two)! Another owner recommended their solution and I am totally impressed. The micro processor fires the engine on TDC on start up and then instantly advances the timing for a smooth idle. The mechanical advancer is gone, fully electronic control. It has six advance curves to choose from  (I just use “stock”). Very high quality and has performed flawlessly. You will not be disappointed.

Just these past few weeks, I have been resurrecting a Benelli 750, and the points have been a trouble area.  A pair of out of spec original condensers (45 years old) caused badly arcing points.  Replacement points had too stiff a spring (originals had 2 thin springs), so I found a set of good used Quattro points.

I looked at other possibilities - Suzuki GT380/550/750, Tim's CBX Dyna conversion, even trying to hunt down old Piranha/Newtronics Benelli ignitions, or making my own using Dyna or Boyer-Brandsen components.

Their instructions look good, assume their quality is good, and they sell all the parts separately.  But I know nothing about the company - how long have they been in business, reliability track record, customer service, etc.

Honestly, if I needed an electronic ignition for my Honda 4, I'd feel more comfortable with a Dyna or a Boyer never had failures with them.

I feel your pain! The gap, dwell and ignition timing on mine seemed to change daily!! I’ve had th system for a few years, totally reliable and improved the bike 2 X.

I do remember that when I printed the on line installation instructions (nice set, in colour)) there was a step that baffled me. Turned out they had changed the design of a component, but not the manual!! If you order one, I’ll dig out my notes and see if xactly what it was

Lastly; because the advancer is removed, it’s difficult to set the crank EXACTLY at TDC when installing the rotor. I built a small plate to bolt my degree wheel (and pointer) to the other end ot the crank. Details if interested, I. Still have all the bits.

Yes, thanks, I will be needing that information.  I will likely order my ignition after Christmas, so no hurry.   I will contact you later.

Hondaman makes a unit for Kawasaki triples. This should work on the Benelli six. He can correct me if I'm wrong.

I’ll look through my notes and try and remember what it was.....

I looked at the Hondaman system, which is a transistorized system, but still retains the points, so a half-step at best.

It still surprises me that no one on this forum has ever used one on their cb750?
They place ads in US magazines, so they must sell in North America??

I think its a pricing issue. The Dyna 2000 is similar, which I got delivered to Canada for $425 USD. The equivalent Sachse with coils would be 425 EUR ($485USD) delivered. The Euro is relatively weak at this time,
which does makes it more affordable.

If you have no need for a microprocessor controlled ignition curve - and most of us don't - I think it is a lot of money for what in essence is but a switch in the negative path of the ignition.

Agreed..... I actually have stuck with the stock ignition on all my Hondas. I enjoy the “tune up” routine and getting it right. The SEI has the extra set of points and condenser in the space Honda fits two. The tiny point sets were awkward and annoying to set (and expensive to replace). The SACHSE system works brilliantly and the bike starts instantly. Money well spent.
