76 CB550F Key-on overdraw
« on: November 05, 2021, 06:54:31 PM »
Hello fellow CB owners! I just got this Cb550f last week. I’m very surprised about the amount of ppl that love and continue to tinker with these bikes!
I’ve had a few issues so far, the bike has an M Unit Blue and it had a dead Regulator/rectifier when I bought it. I thought good to go, WRONG! The previous owner over filled the oil, puking it all over the back half of the bike. I sprayed engine degreaser and washed all the oil off. But now I have an electrical issue.
With the Key- ON, the bike draws enough power to drain the battery within 5 minutes. The light for the left gauge also died but I believe it unrelated.
Any help would be greatly appreciated! Thanks mates!

Probably the previous owner installed a WAY TOO SMALL battery given the “customization” they’ve done to that bike.

A bit more detailed pictures and information on the actaual battery installed is helpful. Also, how did you determine the R/R was “dead”? If that is true, it would have killed the battery so at least replacing the R/R with a quality unit and battery may sort out your problems.

"Of all tyrannies, a tyranny sincerely exercised for the good of it's victim may be the most oppressive. It may be better to live under robber barons than under omnipotent moral busybodies. The robber baron's cruelty may sometimes sleep, his cupidity may at some point be satiated, but those who torment us for our own good will torment us without end for they do so with the approval of their own conscience." - C.S.
