Goodbye to my CB900F.

Sold it to a guy in Florida, it hates the cold, so this should be good for it.

This is a great classic machine. in 2014 I acquired it from under a deck in upstate NY, the owner had spent $1500 and it still did not run so he bailed for 300 dollars. (strange choices people make).  I got it home to NC and cleaned the gas tank, took the Carbs off, dipped them, blew them out with B12, new gaskets, new plugs, new battery, it fired right up. Double checked the valve clearance, checked compression all about 160.

I spent several months taking it down to the frame, prepping and painting. Three weekends to do the Comstars

All the brake pistons were jammed up with what ever Brake fluid and water form after decades under a deck. Replaced pistons & seals after spending hours hours cleaning that white crust from brake fluid/water/aluminum corrosion. I expected them to fail, they have not.

Spent nearly $500 on paint, experimented with orange metalflake..

I put it all back together rode it about 100 miles, then headed to Barber for vintage bike days. 400+ miles with a friend on his Sportster. didn't miss a beat.  Great memories

got a little more than I had in it, not bad

I changed the oil, cleaned, adjusted the chain, put in new plugs, checked timing, and cam chain tension. Setting the guy off to a good start.  He said he wanted to try a classic, I hope he enjoys it as much as I have.

It does have a few quirks, like difficult to start if you let it sit much more than a week, it uses oil, the harder you run it...the more you use. (like all my classics)  the front gets heavy if tire pressure goes down even a few PSI. Shifting must be firm & positive. I put plugs in on every oil change. (I am sending 6 with the bike)

At any rate: I'll miss it. I'll mentally debate the decision to sell for a while, and hate to admit I'm selling it because it just does not get ridden enough.  This will bring me to three machines, and it should prove to my resident skeptic that the money I've spent on the 750, and 550 "could" be returned if I sold them.

Here are a few pic's to show off one last time.

Very nice 👍! Fond farewell to your old friend. You did a very nice job on it...I hope the new owner cares for it well and enjoys it

Thinking of taking the money to buy a new 125 trail...Delivery is crazy and if I could find a mid 70's to restore I might be swayed away from new "perfection".

That is a nice looking bike, one of my favorites. I really like the black paint, chrome trim, and small round wing emblem on the tank. Looks really sharp.

Just loaded it on the trailer, nice guy, he only had "mine" on trailer, but was headed to pick up a Tesla to bring to South Florida.

Asked him a bout shipping two bikes to Ft. Myers for a month in December on a lark. the $1200 each way for two bikes will motivate me to drive north to NY, Pick up my buddies 750 & trailer, bring it here, load my 750, then Ill drive that enclosed trailer behind my RV to Fla this January. ( took my 550 to FL in an open trailer, rain storms on the drive made a real mess of the bike.

Should be able to ship a bike to NM or AZ for that kind of money...$600
I bet he didn't want to do it.
