Ok, I guess I can die a happy man, gas cap came yesterday, fits and works like new. $20 cheapest new part I've purchased so far. Avon MKII's will be here next week. 1 less thing.

Ok, 1 tire down and 1 more to go, what a major pain in the b@!!$... Greasy, messy just neglect filled mess. No center stand either. At some point the chain had been dropped, left some minor gouges on the inside of the swingarm. Cleaned it all up, still more to do, gotta get a new rear shock and chain and sprockets next. Not looking forward to that.

Previous owner did what most do when they don't know or care how to maintain them. Ride it till it dies, fz's did just that. Once the valve clearance's close up, they just stop running. So far so good since I've put it back together, every ride gets a little better. It starts and goes at the touch of the starter button.

I haven't found anything else since purchasing the euro spec (1FN) pipe. Its useable and I'm confident I can make it look better than it does at the moment, but it'll take a bit of work. There's a used kerker on EBay I'm watching but used anything in the exhaust category is a pricey gamble, that's how I got what I already have. The current exhaust I have is nice and quiet, which is a change as of late. My cb400f even with a complete kerker isn't quiet by any means, but its way quieter than the Ontario/Sudco pipe I ran for years on it. My hearing's not what it use to be and loud pipes (even w/ear plugs) don't help. So I'll keep looking.

A few hundred miles to scuff-in those new tires and then you can find some nice roads with sweepers,etc.

Front brakes fine, the rear needs a MC rebuild. so, one thing at a time. I had the front forks off as well and put in a new set of seals and O-rings and fork oil, failed to mention that earlier. Once it was reassembled I snooped it all down looking for a slow air leak as it had one before and it was the main reason I pulled it all down to begin with. Well, the one thing I never replaced was the fill valve, and that's where its leaking from, albeit very slowly but it does bubble up when you spray it down. so I've gotta get a new valve, hoping its just the core. I really need to focus on straightening the exhaust out and getting that looking respectable.

It's a credit to you getting this bike up and running. I know what you mean about exhausts for this era of bike.
I had a really nice 86 slabbie which had a nice V & H system. I wanted an original system.
The odd one would pop up that was unsalvagable .
The one and only time a near perfect set came up for sale in 6 or 7 years and were only an hour up the road.
I didn't have the grand I needed to buy it. :'(

I've been really lucky with my bikes and my cars. When i bought my dad's Royal Enfield in 2006 the RE forum here in the US was super busy, especially given the mall number of bikes RE was selling in the US at the time. I still drop in there now and then. There is also a really good Yamaha FJ community. Goldwings have a couple of great forums, and last but not least. The MG Experience forums are really good.

Well, got a start on the graphics, just did the front uppers and lowers. Really pulls it together, have to get the seat done next, the upholsterer closed till after labor day. Thing runs like a charm, just incredible.

It's getting there, I've gotta decide how I want to proceed with the side panels, may just heat and peel the original decal the color sand it back throw on a couple of coats of clear and then reapply the graphics or refinish then completely, I'll have to see once the originals are off.
Other than that it's just a really pleasant ride, starts stops and turns with ease and its quiet. So nice...

At this point, it is what it is. I'd really like a cleaner set of pipes, but right now they just don't exist. I've got the front brake master to rebuild and the seat and then I've a few people very interested in buying it, so we'll see what it brings. It's a great bike, everything works, and in my neck of the woods ya just don't see these bikes anymore.

Money's a funny thing, "ya can never have too much of it". If the price is right out the door it goes, my oldest son just became engaged 2 weeks ago so we in the process of planning the nuptials. These types of events are money intensive. It's either that or my 400f, and I've had it for about 34 yrs, so there's a bit of an attachment to it. I've several more bikes in storage so there's always something to do, I'm on the lookout for early 80-82 kawasaki's, preferably the 82 gpz1100, but a mkII would be an equally good find, we'll see.
But to gramna2's point, it'll be a little harder too let go, it just runs and rides so damn good.
