Prices are out of control
« on: November 29, 2021, 01:19:10 PM »
It seems everyone out there thinks that if they have anything old it means instant gold. This is a $400 bike any day of the week.

Who is to blame for this? I have some theories.

Same with some old CB750 and Z1-900 adds here where sellers have seen prices of bikes in mint stock condition

Projects that are in need of a total restore, new exhaust system, new seat, tank with side covers plus various small things. Easy $10.000US in parts...
Buy a completely restored really good looking bike is cheaper.

Often the cost of a restore exceeds the value of the finished item making the bike's true value less than zero.

So do it for the love of it or expect to not get your money back. As an investment then it's best to buy a bike where the ROI will be fruitful. My opinion is to get a bike close to road ready and leave it cosmetically as is. This option might cost more initially but will be the more prudent choice financially.

The cost of parts from Honda have gone up so much lately as well. I paid $34 for two tiny orings and two caliper piston seals. This would be half the price 10 years ago.

And yet I keep buying them. But not $4500 mini trails.
