I'm as cheap as the next guy, but if they're relatively priced, it beats the petrified rubber I have on my bike now. It feels like a metal sleeve.  :o

Honda shop can still get them. I think around 100 bucks.

I think they listed for even less than that, if they're available.

I sprayed mine thoroughly with silicone, and put them in tin cans on top of a heater in my garage.  Over a few days, they warm marinated in the silicone while I worked.  Then, I put them on the bike loose, and wrapped a steaming towel around them for a few minutes.  They slipped right into place after that.

I bought a set for my bike last May from hondaparts-direct out of Texas for $14.24 each.  It was the easy way to go since I was re-building the carbs anyway.

So how were they?  Are they old and hard or were they worth the money?  I'm sitting here looking at them and wondering if it's worth the money.  Mine aren't too bad but could stand to be replaced.

It's well worth the money. You can spend your life searching for vacuum leaks and never have a decent running machine. Why people don't just change them is beyond me.

I agree with Mike - I have 2 new sets  - one on my K2 and the other on my K4. So much easier to work with - same goes for the airbox-carb rubbers and they are even cheaper!

cheers
Andy

Cool, I had always assumed they were 31 year old rubber pieces in a 31 year old bag.

There are a million different ways to soften these, but they will harden again very quickly. Mike scored me a new set and you can actually see them pulse at idle so you know they are sealing well.

I'm suprised no one as ever machined different peices that screw into the head to accept a more common cheaper boot eventualy hondas gonna discontinue them then what? maybe someone else in china will repop them lol and they wont fit! i myself have boughten a set for for every cb 750 i have ever worked on or built It's kinda spendy but is a bike sitting in the corner of a gargae that wont run enough greif alone.

I need to replace mine as well.  Hard as a rock.  Required a (soft faced) hammer to get the carbs on.

The price has gone up to $15.58 and $16.24 each..

There is guy on e-bay in Germany that sells 'em for $52 a set plus $10 shipping.  I'm definitely considering this option.

I think Hondaparts.com was the cheapest when I bought mine.  They're definitely not going to get any cheaper.  :(

find a chunk of similar ID radiator hose and cut into four equal length pieces, and viola!

maybe it'd work?

Just had them quoted at £8 each from David Silver ('79 CB650Z). Don't know how that compares once you add the postage you'll have to pay.

Yes, radiator hose does work, used it on my chopper.
