New project. 76 Super sport
« on: December 16, 2021, 11:57:58 pm »
Okay, so I realize I have an addiction.  Sometimes you go to rehab to kick the problem and sometimes you just say screw it and go back for more. Well, I chose the latter this time. Lol. I picked up a non-running  F1 last weekend. It does have a valid title so my original thought was to do a daily rider restore. Of course as I'm taking g that 2 hour ride back home from Charleston, I look at the bike riding on the trailer behind me and my brain says nope, let's build another dragbike. Obviously I need another Honda race bike like I need a hole in the head. By the time I got home, sanity returned and I figured the best things is to at least install an 836 kit, do some mild port work and be satisfied. Hahaha.  We all know how this story is going to end.

Stay tuned as I at least get this thing started and yard rideable.

At least it is a nice or good starting point to begin with...
What are your current street bikes and does your wife ride street with you too?
I have heard of some track racers who won't ride on the street, they feel the risk is too great.
I like the Sulfur Yellow and Parakeet Yellow. Rust-Oleum has a perfect match for the later...

The picture you see was in the sales ad. Of course the owner didn't take a close up. Lets just say it looks better in the picture than it does in person.  Overall it's still a good base to start from on a daily rider restoration project.  The tank has dents so it'll need repair and repainting. It'll be a good time to consider a color change. Oh, and I'm planning on keeping the stock pipe if it's not to far gone.

That exhaust system has to be one of the quietest ever manufactured for a motorcycle. I had one on my bike when I bought it back in the day. It turns the motorcycle into a whispercycle. ;D

Yeah, and the muffler is probably one of the heaviest components too.

Doesn't look too bad Frank except for that nasty seat cover. And you are going to need an extended swing arm too..... and....... of course a replacement cam.....  LOL

Let me know what parts you need.

What became of your stock exhaust Jerry?? Although it's not good for performance,  I'd like to keep this bike stock appearing so I'm on the lookout for a decent stock system.

It's in the parts cave. Yours looks better but no where close to the almost new Kerker sitting close by. The down pipes are pretty rusty on the back side. The muffler may not be as nice as yours either. I've been wondering if the muffler can be flushed out??

I haven't fully inspected my pipe yet but it's got a good bit of rust on
a few of the he head pipe. I need to get the bike up on the stands to see if the tail pipe is good underneath.  While I'm under it I'm planning to pull the oil pan so I can see what's lurking inside. If it's clean, I'll move forward with steps to get it started like cleaning the carbs. I took those off already and they're gummed up but not as bad as anticipated.  Found issues with one slide I need to resolve.

From what I've learned about racing, the answer to "how many are you working on" is all of them.

I might be a poser, I have three bad ass project bikes, it remains to be seen if I have the huveos to finish one and then ride it on the track. We shall see. I plead guilty to posting a lot.

That's a good one Jerry, considering the fact that you've visited my pit area numerous times over the years. Those bikes you'd see didn't fix themselves.  Lol.. But yeah, I get the underlying joke. I refuse to turn this one into a full tilt dragbike. I just want to set it up  so I can ride to work on nice days or cruise downtown or along the country roads. I'm ready to have some wind therapy that lasts longer than a 1/4 mile at a time.

The engine will get some performance upgrades Jerry. I still want to have a little power on the street but will need to be mindful of not getting carried away. I'll try to stay away from extending the arm but will probably lower it front and back so it's easier to handle. I didn't realize how heavy a stock bike feels in comparison to both my race bikes. Dang, it's like pushing a freaking tank and it sits too high for my comfort. If I get it completely sorted out by next year's finals, I'll bring it so you can race it in street ET 😉.

Frank, do your other bikes have the F triple trees? I always thought my F1 felt like a bigger bike than my K's. I thought maybe it was due to the different fork offset.

All have f triples. The rake works well for drag racing.
