Where to buy parts?
« on: December 16, 2021, 07:42:42 PM »
Is eBay our only source for OEM stock used parts?

I'm looking for a CB550 fork, axle, and wheel... Not much on eBay these days.

Does anyone know another source/site?

I'm very familiar with all of those sites... none of which sell stock forks, wheels, axles, triples, etc.

Those sites sell mostly aftermarkets parts.

Silvers and cmsnl sell mostley sell genuine nos parts.
Which 550 is it? The early 550 parts are same as 500

Its a 1977 CB550K, but I don't mind swapping in from a different year since so many years are interchangeable.

David Silvers doesn't seem to have the parts I need.

I also don't mind a little grease on my parts, and would prefer that over spending extra on brand new nos parts, if possible.

Very few new nos parts are available for it anyhow.....

The front axle, hub, rim and spokes are the same as the 72-76 cb750 so more choices for them.

Depending on what you need on the forks(you weren't specific...) You are limited on 77 and 78 550k and maybe the f model.

Was this bike in a front hit accident? Rusted, pitted parts replacement??

You need to find someone with a parts bike. Sorry I don't know of sites or someone with a stash....

Or ask on the forum here. Classifieds, wanted where you can ask for sale where people might sale what you need.

I'm sure there are people around here with lots of parts.

The 77/78 550K are the worst model 550 to get parts for, they are different in so many ways, with pd carbs that are a pain and many parts are unique so rare.
Sorry to say you bought the most unloved model.
Engine parts however are same as all 550.

You can fit any 550 front wheel as long as it is comlete with spindle, speedo drive and speedo gearbox, you can even use a 750 wheel if you swop the disc to a 500/550 one.
Lower tree you can use any 500/550 but you will lose the steering lock

If you are looking for complete used 550 front forks, I have a set.  I believe they are of the 74-76 type.  As far as I know the only thing different to 77-78 would be the top triple.  If you are interested in buying and shipping, please pm me.  I will fetch them out of the rafters so we can have some photos, measurements, etc.
If it works good, it looks good...

Hey Sean...I seem to remember the '77-78 forks may be a little longer than the earlier ones?
I bought some unidentified front forks and they were a different length than what I needed on my [long gone] 550.

Fender is different and fork lowers are a different length and the gaiter isn’t used on 77-78 front fork. Fitting a fork brace is easier on the later fork lowers as there is a bit more room.

So if the fork lowers are different length, are the mounting holes for the caliper bracket still in the same location in relation to the rotor?

Are the calipers/brackets interchangeable between 72-76 and 77/78??

Do you know a dealer inside the European Union, just like the above mentioned shops? (which is not Cmsnl or xmas1.at)
Thanks!

- Classic cycle city
- Sandguss on eBay Germany like Andy Cepok
- Classic-bike-parts also eBay Germany.

-Cruzinimage.net has very cheap parts and good shipping. Their piston kits are used by many. Need tight clearance.
I use their clutch and pistons in my CB750 K2

Used parts: twowheelspares eBay UK. Probably import from USA.
- Lots of sellers on eBay USA
-Yamiya750.com had only 750 parts before. They get more and more for other CB's
-David silver has shops both in UK and USA.

A good idea to find other sellers, search on eBay and Google. Use bike model only to start with and see. Not too many details in search expression. CB500 or CB550 must give you sellers.

Parts can pop-up very sudden on eBay, disappear quickly if price and part is good.

From memory, the 77/78 550K uses the same front wheel, Speedo drive and front fender as a 77/78 cb750K. The disc on the 550 uses the same mounting bolt pattern, but is slightly smaller in over all diameter.

Franksforks.com used to be a source. Check with them, they used to custom make forks.
