Hello from the Netherlands, a new member with a CB 400 F.

Hello guy's,

A short introduction from a new member from the Netherlands. When I was young, I bought a CB 500 F, rode it for a long time, and later on sold it, to buy a red CB 400 F, a '75 model, with the passenger steps still on the swingarm, sold it to buy a CB 750 F1, lots of other bikes followed since, but I never forgot the little 400 F.
Just like the Z650B1 I had owned too. I already have 2 of those, but then I stumbled upon a CB 400 F2, a '78. I just could not resist it, and so it is now here with me.
It was remarkedly mostly original, so bringing it back to life again isn't much work! The guy I bought it from alradey started work on it, and a lot of parts were already replaced, mostly engine parts. The paintwork was shabby, so I had it repainted by a guy I know, who also painted my 2 z650's.
I got reminded of this forum, so I became a member! If I can figure out how to put photo's in my post, I will post some before and after pic's of the little 400 F!

Thanks! The first picture is how I bought it, well, after I assembled it again, when I bought it, it was lying in parts in several locations, the guy was living in an appartment with not much space, so the bike was scattered in several sheds, but when I built it up again, this was the result. Not bad, everything was there.
I have several other projects going on, so my garage is full, this is why the 400 is in my livingroom now. Anyway, being single it is okay, and I like to work on a bike in the livingroom. The last 2 pictures I added are me and the 400 I had in the 80ties.
And, I got very lucky when buying this yellow '78 400 F, the guy was moving house, so it had to go. But he wanted the bike to go to someone who would care for it.
I paid only $500 for the bike, but as said, it was in parts off-course. But still very cheap!

Yes it sure is, here in the Netherlands bikes like the 400F go for about triple that amount. Even in the state the 400 was when I bought it, I got lucky!
I still have a lot of small things to take care of, but it isn't really a problem, as the bike runs fine now. The valvecover gasket leaks some oil, so I will have to replace that,
clutch slips a bit, things like that. It will be fine.

Typical price in UK now is in the region £5k to £6k. You have done well.

I have just found a set of unused original rear shocks for the 400, as the one's pictured in my previous posts were too long.
And not the correct ones, so I am getting along great with my 400F.

She is running fine, but I do need to check the clutch, it slips a little.
Anyway, I did manage to find an original seat for it here, on a national selling site! No tears or problems with it, so it is now on the 400. Looks way better now, as the seat fitted earlier had a replacement cover on it, without the strap , and missing the rivets. Now it is really getting near standard! I am a very happy cb400f owner!
