CB750K 1978 Carbs/Choke

Hi -

Thought I’d ask b/c I can’t find much info online. 

I am in the process of cleaning up the front end of my bike as part of my rebuild.  I have the original carbs that come with a choke cable. 

1) I would like to not have the choke cable on my triple top - and wondering if there is a conversion kits to convert the carb from cable operated choke to manual side operated one.  I know older models had some sort of a handle to work the choke.  Is this even possible for the model I have?

2) if not, any suggestions recommendation to where I could move it? And how?

Simple answer is not easily as the cable does not just close the choke flaps but also operates a high idle cam.
You also need to be able to alter the amount of choke easily as the pd carbs ( VERY different from early carbs!) are very cold blooded and need constant adjustment until the engine warms up

Old school ten speed bicycle gearshift lever and gear cable would allow you to put the cable operated choke handle almost anywhere.  Yes, you would have to do some bracket fab, but it could be clamped to the frame near the petcock (left side).  These levers came with a friction adjust screw to keep choke at desired level or value.

Move the cable elsewhere. The cable can be shortened or make your own. It could end up under the seat or attached to the airbox. Try the lawnmower department and mickey mouse away. LOL

+1 to Bryanj..... K7/8 need a smoothly operating choke to start from cold. Mine start easily (cold) on full choke (which advances the throttle a small amount too), but almost instantly has to be modulated down to keep the revs reasonable. Make sure it’s accessible and fully operational.

I played with this and as long as the cable moves smooth, you can do whatever. You can use any length you need, it just need to move smooth. I left mine as sometimes adjustment is needed and it was just easier with gloves.

If you are using the common carb kits sold today for rebuild, DO NOT USE their brass parts, like the jets and needles. They are not calibrated properly for these carbs. Use the OEM brass everywhere. The float valves in your kit will also have very stiff springs, so set the float levels 1mm richer to help with cold-blooded issues.
