A sausage roll sounds good, even after all the Thanksgiving food I stuffed my face with this week.  It's been several years since I had one.

My son was here all week for Thanksgiving.  We hiked up to the top of Enchanted Rock, which I posted a few pics of on some earlier ride posts.  We were supposed to hit another State Park yesterday, but it was raining all day.  We spent most of the week assembling a guitar project for him that I've been working on the past couple of months.  The guitar originally belonged to my sister.  She gave it to me and I passed it along to my son.  It was super crusty having spent most of its life in Hawaii.  He took me to dinner at a local German restaurant one night.  Brats, sauerkraut and potato salad.  Good stuff.

As my son was packing his car to head home this morning I had forgotten that I didn't show him the Scout, so I gave him a quick glimpse and run-down.  Missing being on two wheels.  I'm jealous of the rides just posted.  It's been cold and wet here for the past two weeks.  All that rain felt odd, considering how dry it's been the past year.  It's supposed to be sunny all week and get up in the 70's on Tuesday.  Hoping Ride #26 is going to happen.

Completely off topic, but here's a pic of the guitar...

Thanks guys, yep I'll keep riding and as I'm going on Christmas vacation on the 9th of December my aim is to do 44 rides before the end of the year. I can't today though, I need to mow the lawn and clean up the yard a tad before I fly interstate for work tomorrow, for the week. I want to do a little bit more work on the Fireblade too, and take it for a lap around the block, or two. I wish I could ride it further, but it's not registered, so too risky. I'm converting it to accept a 17 inch front wheel from a VFR800, the 'blade was the last model to run 16 inch front wheels, which make tyre choices difficult. ;D
I was feeling sorry for myself because I couldn't afford new bike boots, until I met a man with no legs.

So I said, "Hey mate, you haven't got any bike boots you don't need, do you?"

Look like a good ride in OK temperature. ;)
Only 4 months left if lucky. But the last springs have been cold with snow attacks from heaven in first half of April.

Only rode 35 miles but turned over 62,000 miles on the odometer. Rode with a buddy who has a 77 RD 400. Temperature was mid 70s.
Just discovered another CB400 on the island (that makes three now). I informed him about the SOHC website and he will be looking into it soon. He brought it from California and only paid $400 for it . the factory exhaust is worth that alone.    cheers

Geez I bloody should Brian, I found a pic the other day of you, me and your mate Pete(? the guy who was dragging the oxygen bottle around, I think he passed a couple of years ago?) at Phillip Island when I was a fat boy, and I think that was the last time I saw you too, or was it a year later? Anyway, what date mate, I'm on leave from the 9th of December, so a ride to your place would be good. ;D

Virginia is like that.  No winterizing, only snow keeps me off the roads and that's usually only few days.  Plus our county does not use salt.

But my friends in the Czech republic park for winter typically till March.  Except for their local version of the Green Elephant  :D

Terry, that’s an admirable goal. 10 rides in a busy month is a lot to bite off, but is a fitting finish to 2022.
Keep those wheels turning on your fine flock of motorcycles.

Budman, I like your guitar. I started playing when I was 10? and I had a decent student instrument, a Harmony. But what I wanted, what I craved, was a maple neck Fender Telecaster.  $200 was a very big number for a 10 year old…..
I never got the Tele, but I have a nice Taylor now.
…and your guitar is not a Telecaster??

I would imagine that it's pretty hard to rack up alot of miles on the Islands. But the views must be awsome!

Technically it's my son's guitar, and it's actually a G&L ASAT.  G&L was the company Leo Fender founded in the 70's after he sold his stake in Musicman to Ernie Ball.  The ASAT was the G&L version of a Telecaster, but it didn't sound like a standard Tele.  Mainly due to the different style pickups.

I tried to buy a super nice 70's Tele in the 80's.  It had a birsdeye maple fingerboard with a white binding.  I went over to the guy's house with the cash ready to make the deal and his buddy was there, and he started whining about how much he wanted that guitar, and how he was planning on buying it.  I left empty handed.

Taylors are sweet.  I've dabbled in guitar, but I started on bass.  I haven't played guitar in so long I've pretty much forgotten how.

Budman, You might be surprised if you should pick up your instrument. I had a 30? year pause in guitar playing, much like my 15 year pause in motorcycling. My college age daughter wanted to learn. We bought her a guitar, and as I was teaching her this and that I started enjoying it. Got myself a decent Ibanez and was gifted the Taylor a few years back. Think I can play better nowadays, (that’s not saying too much). But it sure is easier these days with YouTube tutorials, tabs, tuners, lyrics, modern strings.

Ride #26 - 71 miles

Absolutely beautiful day today.  It got up to 78F.  You would have thought it was spring.

I had planned on riding out to the LBJ State Park simply because I hadn't been there before.  It was pretty windy this morning, but by 1:00pm it had slowed down.  The day was getting on, so I decided to go the Old Tunnel State Park instead.  It was a little closer and there's not much to see or do.  I've been there a few times already...its free too.  It's an old, abandoned railroad tunnel that is now home to thousands of bats most of the year.  I call it the Bat Tunnel.  They also have a short hiking trail, that's about it.  You can buy a ticket and go watch the bats fly out at sundown, something I haven't done yet...but I think the bats have gone to Mexico for the winter.  Anyway, I rode down there and the park was closed for construction.  Only an observation deck was open.  I couldn't walk down the hill to view the tunnel.  I guess they decided this was a good time of year to redo the park since the bats weren't there.

I took a few photos and headed back home before it started getting dark and all the wild animals start coming out.  The photo with the two bench seats overlooks the valley where one end of the tunnel is.  I think the other end of the tunnel is on private property.   Short and uneventful as it was it was still a pretty good ride.  We finally have some fall colors.  Last week when my son was here everything was still green.

It's supposed to get cold again for the next two days.  Looks like it might get up to 70F on Friday.  I might try to get to the LBJ State Park for Ride #27.

I just parked the K2 and the K4 for the winter this past weekend. I rode the K4 this year a grand total of ~2000 miles and the K2 a measely 800 miles as the wiring harness had to be replaced at the start of summer and it took me a while.

K2 below on one of its last ride of 2022 - testing the harness replacement on a 50 mile loop ride- no issues! And a sunset ride - the K2 is wearing K4 colours  8)

K4 - one of the last Fall rides

To be honest I have been distracted this year but a new addition to the garage - a Yamaha Tenere 700. Bought in August and riding it since then....sold the Honda XR650L after 2 months of owning the T7.

#19.  I basically circled Quantico marine base. West side to go down, took 1 up (North) and east side back. Nice, curvey roads through woods with little traffic.

I went to Moldovia European store to get some tinned cod liver and hungarian salami plus european chocolate for my wife.  The store owner took me for a hungarian - I can live with that, as long as I am not called a russian.

Had a officemate when working in telecom back around 2000-2003 and Anton was Russian, from Tartar region. Helped him fix some drywall when he was in argument with girlfriend he was mad and hit the wall expecting concrete block style construction like in Russia (Moscow). Was surprised he put his fist through/into the wall.  I showed him how to do the job and used plaster as joint compound and stippled and textured it before painting. Totally invisible repair job...took a section of the broken drywall to Home Depot and they color matched a quart of paint. Painted entire wall just to ensure it was invisible.

Was funny how embarrassed he was to tell me about it. Apartment complex was going to charge him over 200 for the repair. He fed me dinner and bought the supplies and we made an evening job of it.

Glad you were able to find the gifts for your wife...I am sure she will enjoy them. Are they Christmas gifts?
Hiding them in the garage amongst the motorbike stuff?

My wife is from Moldova. Transnistria close to Ukraine.
She has relatives in Ukraine.

We had planned to travel to visit her mother last August.
When there go to Ukraine for swimming for a week in the Zatoka area. Nice sand beaches beside Black Sea. Last time 2013.

Beaches not far from Odessa probably full of oil and mines.

Tickets not refundable. I and her son stayed here, all fun disappeared.
Wife had to visit her old mother, help her with things and spread some joy.

The television and radio program people what to think. Maybe even worse media strategies than we have within EU.

Strange, we had ideas in end of last year to buy an apartment in Bender or nearby Tiraspol very close to Ukranian border for future use.  Low price and very low cost.

Bad development in that area now.

2009 we travelled to north of Moldova into Ukraine and to the mountains, city Jaremtje. Not that far from Romania.

Really beautiful area. Nice hotels and really good food for not that much money.

Only 4 months left to hopefully riding season here ;)

Guys from Czech used to take their Jawas and CZs to Ukraina and Romania.  Beautiful countries.

Myself I hiked four times mountains on the Poland-Slovakia border.

Of course we used to have a chunk of Karpaty mountains at the far end of Slovakia before Josif Vyssarionovic chopped it off.

Ride #27 - 79 miles

I rode down to the LBJ State Park today along the Pedernales River (pronounced Perdenales in Texan).  All a really wanted to do was see the Longhorn "herd", which looked like it was only about 6-7 head (not exactly what I would call a herd)...and also see the bison herd (I call them buffalo).  Same thing...only about 6-7 head.  Massive beast though.  Reminded me of the time I got pretty close to a real herd at Custer State Park, South Dakota when a real herd decided to cross the rode in front of our group.

The Longhorn weren't cooperating with my picture taking.  They wouldn't pose so I could photograph their massive horns or come close to the fence.  Also, the buffalo weren't where they said they supposed to be.  I rode down to the pasture and only saw the statue.  As I was leaving, I rode along the back of the park and there they were, in the trees.  I rode a short portion of the LBJ Ranch tour.  I'llt I'll have to go back when I have more time.

The temperature was a comfortable 71F.  I wish I had worn a jack though.  The sun wasn't out so at 70mph I was getting a little chilly.  Still a good day.  No food to show.  I ate lunch before I left.

Still hoping to hit 30 rides for the year.
