My name is Carlos, just wanted to introduce myself,i am restoring a 1977 CB550K, your typical experience, left outside, last tagged in 84,complete basket case, everything jammed, welded together, sadly bike had 20 thousand miles only when left outside, restoring very slowly and taking my time,I'm one of those that believes in pacing yourself,i cringe at YouTube videos that say "get your heater core replaced in 30 minutes" and things like that, lol

I work in a machine shop for a living although i am not a machinist, I'm in my very early 50s but have been wrenching since i was around 10 so very mechanically inclined, just wanted to say hi and hope to make some friends here and get some knowledge on this project im working on.

I owned several bikes when  young but haven't been around bikes for many years, this bike was gifted to me by a buddy so i decided to restore it, not sure what ill do with it when im done, just do it as therapy and relaxation,i am also into cars, have a 91 Mustang i am restoring also and fixing to drop a motor in it soon.

One of my hobbies is WW2,im a WW2 historian of sorts and love anything to do with it, airplanes, tanks, submarines, you name it, I'm in it,love history, glad to be here.

You picture showed up.
The wheels are Invader 5 spoke wheels. My friend put them on in the 80s or early 90s. I bought this bike from his estate 4 years ago.

Cool, yeah i looked those up, those things are not cheap and not common either, they do look really cool versus the spokes, when you say your friends estate i assume he passed? sorry about that.

Yeah i took that picture about a year and a half ago,i go that bike stripped down to the frame,we have a beadblaster where i work, a big one so I'm thinking about blasting the frame and either going powder or paint, would like powder better, i know it has its cons but its just more durable and there is a shop a mile away from where i work and i know the guy somewhat.

I got everything i took of the bike in little baggies tagged and marked, that was a royal pain but will come in handy, top of the engine was wrecked, that first piston was full of water and that particular jug was toast so i found that whole piece on eBay in really nice shape for cheap, has a little piece missing of the fins but besides that the bores are smooth as glass.

The bottom end of the engine was actually in really good shape so im gonna use all that, casing is good too,the head portion that was over that jug is wrecked too, plenty of pitting in the combustion chamber,im guessing its junk too, some guy i found that rebuilds heads said he could probably save it but i think its better to get one in better shape.
