Website for buyer of old motorcycles?
« on: January 04, 2022, 09:59:22 AM »
Do any of you happen to know what the deal is with this website? "Wantedoldmotorcycles.c0m"
They have a website and toll-free number set up. I keep seeing their ads on CL. I'm really just curious. I thought maybe it would be a good source for purchasing an old cb or parts, but their ad says "Do not contact us looking for parts. We do not sell parts" and a bunch of stuff about it being for collecting and whatnot. It's obviously a business. What are they doing with the stuff?

Yes, it's a business.  They are most likely parting out the bikes and selling the parts.  Their ideal purchase are old bikes that have been setting in a garage for decades that they buy for a couple hundred bucks.

About a year ago, was losing my [free] storage, and needed to downsize my Kawasaki bike collection.
I posted a thread on the Triples forum and made a deal with one of the members, he sent the agreed purchase amount and sent a transporter to pick up the bikes and parts.
Turns out he had plans to part out and sell the parts.

That's pretty much what I figured. You think they end up on ebay or what?

Most likely.  Ever heard of "MrMonkeyClaw" on eBay?  He has 187,345 parts for sale right now!

BTW - he is not recommended, most of us wont buy his overpriced parts.

Here in Michigan, there is lots of this kind of stuff going on.  Plus, lots of the best stuff gets filtered out and ends up getting imported abroad.  Think K0 750's, Kaw Z1's and 2 stroke Triples and even lesser stuff if it is exceptionally clean, original, or restorable.  There are still plenty of bargains here, but if you want something, you gotta be ready to go get it right now.  Even then it is hard to beat pro flippers that are working at this full time.

The "Claw" advertises everywhere. Even the little 'shopper papers" that communities around here have with local news and classifieds. There's a reason he has so many parts and those very large motorcycle auctions regularly.
And as Sean mentioned no shortage of pickers out there for the Japanese and Euro markets.

Many of those guys are exporting bikes. The monkeyclaw, mr. C, etc found me at Davenport this year before I even got stopped in the parking lot. They looked at my stuff and didn't like my prices. They got very interested in my K0. I would not quote a price.
I sold a few parts bikes to them once and they cut up titled frames, split engine cases into two sales and even listed rods and caps separately.
No matter how many times you paint over a shadow, it's still there.

I was wondering about shipping overseas. I know that happens a lot with cars. Buyers pick them up and then ship them overseas.

I've read about guys filling containers with old bikes and shipping overseas.  The cost of shipping has tripled, the price on the bikes/parts over there will have to as well.

to be perfectly honest, I would be perfectly fine with that supply chain just ending and all the cheap old bikes here in Michigan can just stay right here

sorry sean but the containers are still arriving here by the day . there are five or six big importers and many more that get one or two containers a year . add to that the american dealers that are selling individual bikes on ebay and you are loosing a lot of bikes !

Though they are getting some arrive too, I notice David Silver always sends a containerload from the UK over to the Mecum auction. I guess it's all down to knowing the markets really well in both countries

Yeah, I know!  Except for the occasional R5/rd Yammie, all the 2 stroke stuff is basically depleted.  How long before all that is left of the 70's is some crap cx500?  I suppose I better start grabbing up every Hurricane and early Ninja I can right now. lol  Actually, the northern midwest is STILL amazing what pops up.

Hey Steve. Leave it to Rick Brett to find a real diamond of a Z1B. Sold for $42,100 !  Wonder if he is totally out of the container shipping since his liquidation ? If yes it
looks like he still knows people. https://www.ebay.com/itm/363578001563?hash=item54a6f0089b%3Ag%3Ac9oAAOSwrTZhZg0w&nma=true&si=diF9KLcwkOBiDKDEArr6KbTy%252FhQ%253D&orig_cvip=true&nordt=true&rt=nc&_trksid=p2047675.l2557
