CB550K: where does this go?
« on: January 11, 2022, 02:45:38 PM »
When I took the fuel tank off my CB550k to replace my ignition coils this guide fell free without me seeing where it came from or what it is for?!? Can anyone tell me where it goes and exactly what it is for? I replaced coils, plugs and wires. In the process I freed up a lot of the wiring too. Thanks.

I knew I'd seen that...part number is 50462-323-000, called protector, ignition.  But I'm not sure yet just where it goes without going out to see my bike.  That's not happening till the temp goes back above 10 degrees F!

Ok, it's number 11in the general export wire harness fiche at cmsnl
I think it attaches to the top of the front coil mounting bracket, but I'm not sure about that placement.

Ok very helpful, just what I needed. And makes sense because I took those off!

BTW what is FTFY?  :-[

Doesn't it guide the spark plug wire to keep it away from the exhaust?

No, it goes on the "webbed" portion of the frame opening where the coil wires pass through. It's meant to protect the bare, unpainted frame so that you can get a good ground.

Thank you Scott... I was unfamiliar with it and didn't want to move a few bikes in the shed to get to the 550 which is in the very back adjacent to the wall.
