 We used to use Glyptal paint on the interior of engines. It was intended for the interior of large GE electric motors. The thought was, it seals the pores of castings and locked in any left-over casting sand. It also speeded the return of oil to the pan.

I really  wonder where these bike will be in another 45-50 years.  I'll be long gone but who knows, some of the bikes may still survive.

I bet the bikes will be here long after we are gone. It would be interesting to see what the market for them would/will be like. Most of the people who were around when they came out or had a personnel attachment will be out of the market. If only we all had a crystal ball.

Panhead engines are made of sandcast mould so that paint is applied to the porous material.  A lot of builders use it.

Agreed, the bikes will still be around after we are gone.   

It will be different though, instead of the new owners hearing "Oh, I used to have one of those back in the day", it may be "Oh, my Dad [or GranDad] rode one of those back in the day".

Happy to answer questions. Yes, it was glyptal on the inside of the engine. I do this for all sandcasts. Its the most common question I get! Never had an issue with it after many many miles in may bikes.

Excellent video and just amazing detail. I remember the sandcasts well. Assembled and prepped a Ruby Red one and a Blue one back in the day. And they did run so sweet.

You are not the first to ask for a longer version of the video. I've considered doing a video about the engine, a video about paint, a video about tuning....etc. I just dont have time these days to put something of decent quality together.

What would you want to see?
