I have this little 83' XR100 playbike and I want to put a set of aftermarket fork springs on it so that my 235lb self can ride it w/o bottoming the forks all the time;it has 27mm O.D. fork tubes with the stock fork springs which have had spacers installed in them to compensate & that helps somewhat.. They upgraded the forks on the 1985'+ XR100's and those springs won't fit my 83'.
I called Progressive Suspension, they didn't have them that small,so now I'm at a loss and wondered if there's some place that sells stuff for small playbikes and would have a listing for my 83' XR100 for a pr. of stronger fork springs.
A fellow told me BBR makes them, not sure if they'll be heavy enough?

Hi, I'd like to see some pics of this bike......sounds like a neat bike.

Also, you could try a heavier fork oil to stiffen them up.

I've got a CB100, that I play in the back yard, to bruise ribs, when a little tipsy. (drunk)

I'm also rebuilding a CL100, haven't really figured out the type of final outcome. Maybe a town runner. Nothing crazy, I think.

If it sounds like I know what I'm talking about, it's because I cut and pasted from someone else.

Drill and tap the fork caps for Schrader valves, and pump about 15 PSI into them; my '82 Honda CR 480 and '82 Honda FT Ascot both came with air valves in the caps from the factory.

True. My CM400C had caps and a balance tube, spec was 3-11psi, so 1.5-5.5 per side?

I used to use air but found it causes a bit of stiction in the forks where they don't move as smoothly on my road bike.I have put-in up to 5 lbs. without a problem though.

I just ordered a set of fork springs that member here 'Alan F.' told me about;he must have had to do a bunch of searching to find them. They were on the Kmart website no less !  The dimensions to fit my application match and the price was great with free shipping.  ;) :)

They came up in a search for 17.5mm fork springs. I think K-mart is only online now and they'll sell you anything they can get their hands on just like WalMart.com.

I want to install heavier fork springs on two bikes.
The one XR100 I haven't actually taken possession of it yet but will be when I finish paying a friend for it.
The 81' CB125S which has the XR200R engine and front disc brake needs better springs also.
The bottom picture shows the bike w/o footpegs;I had just reinstalled the 185 engine and it was before I bolted them up.

After finishing a few old projects I'll be doing a steering stem swap to add CB400T 33mm forks to a 250 Nigthawk. It's got a 310mm? drum now but I'll swap out the left fork lower for one from a CX500 so I can run the single disc & twin piston caliper with a pair of tubeless Comstars, I'll probably toss in some cheap cartridge emulators and look around at springs too.

What are those rear shocks Bill?

Hi Alan,that's a good thing,going over to disc:drum fronts just won't cut-it.
The rear shocks on this little 'mini-bike'  :D are very cheap(purchased from Wemoto UK $130 shipped)YSS shocks(13" eye to eye)made to fit a UK version CB125RS;they're a hair better in quality than OEM which were worn out.I prefer a better quality shock with what I carry on this bike, max load is 325lbs. & the rack will carry 65lbs+.This is my daily rider and a real workhorse,it even rolls on Interstates with me tucked out of the wind blasts.
I'm installing a black XR low miles dirt bike engine, fully rebuilt with more power this weekend;my powersports machinist did a Great job on cutting the valve seats for maximum flow.

That's a lot of weight for a rear rack! Make sure to check it for cracks now and then.
