022A Carb Rebuild: O-rings go where?
« on: January 17, 2022, 06:40:06 PM »
Rebuilding a set of 022A carbs on my project. Previous owner stripped them down completely and I'm working off whatever diagrams I can find to reassemble with the 4into1 carb rebuild kit (and different jets).

I have most of the pieces in the right places (I think?), but there's 2 o-rings I can't identify or find where they go. Any thoughts?

Drain screw for one of them.
You do know to not use the brass out of aftermarket kits, right?

Seeing that now, I wasn't sure with the spring where it went on as some diagrams showed a small washer on there too.

I've heard the aftermarket brass doesn't compare to Keihin so I'm using the old parts with new Keihin jets from Jetsrus.

The tiny O ring is for the main jet even though they fit one to the new jet

Nope. Not on the oldstyle carbs. Each set contains O-rings for the T-joints. Tip: save them for when you need them. Mine still won't leak in spite of harsh treatment and I certainly am not going to separate the carbs if I don't need to.

The PD carbs that were on the K3/4 models. Those have the air/fuel mix screws engine side. The oldstyle carbs have the airscrews airfilter side.

This helps clarify because I didn't have a washer for the screw and wondered if it was model specific. The tiny o-ring does fit on this air/fuel screw at the top but I wasn't sure if it needed one or would create issues and I should just use the spring.

Good post, Delta!  :)
I was trying to find an old set of 022a carbs to do just that.

Some of you may be familiar with the serie of vids, Marco, a member of the German forum, has posted on the dissassembly (total!) and reassembly of his CB500 carbs. I believe there are 7 vids or so in total.
BTW, it's with hesitation that I mention them: personally I do NOT recommend to undertake what he has done. I myself have never felt the need to even separate the carbs from one another. But that's not the subject here.
At 18:20 in the vid below he shows, he has added small O-rings around the airscrews. Originally that O-ring is not there. His reasoning: to avoid any risk of Falschluft. I don't see the danger; I have no O-rings there.
This is just one of his vids, the start (part 1) of the reassembly:

Awew c'mon Delta.  Disassemble the entire rack!  Live a little.
(I'm kidding!)

The process of fully restoring 500/550 carbs was fun.  Some of the individual parts arent even listed on the microfiche.

Hence my warning. Where will you find one of those almost microscopic black graphite looking parts, if you miss one. Your name Bombermann suggests something German. If you can understand German, Marcel's vids are wunderbar.
