Piston Ring Placement Diagram
« on: January 19, 2022, 09:07:53 PM »
Probably going to look like a dummy, but I can't seem to figure this out. The diagram makes no sense insofar that the "Engine Front" would be pointing to the side of the engine, not the front or the back, so I'm confused as to the placement of my rings. I've attached the reference diagram.

So if I'm standing directly in front of the motor on its mount on my table and looking down at the head for example (and the back of the motor is farther away) would I place them in directly as they're labeled with the writing facing me where I can read it (with the letters not upside down)? So "Engine Front" would be to my left standing at the front of the bike, but to my right if I'm sitting on the bike.
Thankful for everyone on this forum. Grateful to continue to learn so much.

The "engine front" in that diagram assumes a longitudinally mounted engine, rather than an transverse engine, so the "front" is 90 degrees different.
Don't fix it if it ain't broke!

Good to see someone reading the manual 😁
This is the same end gap spacing Chevrolet
Has used since the SBC and BBC deput…
Major thrust covers the exposed top ring’s end gap.
Minor thrust covers 2nd rings end gap to facilitate oil scraping..
As explained in the Chevrolet service manual….
Even though this has been formally taught differently..

Dynoman has tech sheet for their pistons. Ring orientation for our engines is clear. Not as the Wiseco description.
