Yeah, no adjustable sprocket. If I'm going to go the Webcam route then I've got all that stuff in front of me yet. Just wasn't ready for another big project. ;)

I still think you can make it work in the meantime.

Are you doing the valve lash per cylinder or as a group like the manual says?

I've used the 126-00 in several CB550 engines. All have been fine and have run for years, now, with no issues. Some of them were noted here in build threads. One received the 'big bore'  605cc pistons, the others were stock (0.5mm) overbore pistons. All of them are 10k RPM engines now.

That is certainly an option.

Mike, have you ever seen a cam like this before, with the clearance varying across the base circle? Just want to get a feel for whether I should consider it normal or not.

My K/H cam is lashed at .004. I never checked it at less. I also do the EO/IC method of checking lash. I just watched a video on it from Steve Morris race engines that may make me even more consistent adjusting our race car.

If the issue was inconsistent, like you said, impacting only some of the lobes.  Then its a problem with the process.
Could be something silly like the forklift passing by.  Causing a momentary flex in the floor.
Purely speculation..
Either way, it wasn't enough of a defect to make the machinist go "awww sh--"

that fixture adaptor tool must be solid, not just 3/16 thick,a tiny flex at one point will throw it all out of spec with the toughness of valve springs.

I don't recall seeing your problem. I wonder what equipment was used on your cam.....I have a feeling it wasn't CNC

Nope. Definitely an old-school cam grinder. I wonder if his master was off.
