Sorta still in Tucson, he had a business in NY he sold to his business partners and he focused his efforts on RestoCycle and the IKON shocks as he was one of two distributors I was aware of in the US. Then couple years back his partners asked him to take over the business again and he did so, shuttering RestoCycle as a result. He still has his old shop keeping it as a personal play space to work on bikes by himself and a friend. They recently shared some pics on a FB group they hang out on of a CBX they had built from spare parts they had amassed. It was running quite well on just the bench sync of the carbs, better than most will do before tuning…it had a couple thangs the running was showing which needed addressed but they were amazed and stoked it ran so well on first startup, I mean it sounded really really good!

Nils and his shop friend have a love of the CBXs and have built and restored a bunch of them.

So, Nils is still around Tucson when not back East running and maintaining his business. But, RestoCycle and the Ikon shock business are closed…

Got the motor cleaned up a bit today.

Is anyone reproducing the white rubber fin inserts? 21 inserts in the cylinder and 8 in the head. Partzilla gets $5.12 each and Yamiya gets $3.14, but they are black only.

Not sure how yet, but I'm going to try and remove the black powdercoat.

Those fin dampers weren't even available until lately. I'd like some for mine, as most of them are gone after 150K+ miles! But, white.

The guy who does wetblasting here for me hasn't been in the shop this week, will try next week.

Looks like CMSNL has them in white or light grey for $4.67 each….ouch.

I’ve got some stripper that I tried today that removes powder coating. More to come….

I want to paint this engine silver again, which means the black powdercoat has to go. I didn't want to disassemble the engine if I didn't need to, so I'm trying stripper.

I let the stripper stay on for 30 minutes before removing the paint. I've still got some clean up to do, but it's working very well.

Yes it is. Methylene Chloride is wonderful stuff! Gotta be careful with it though.

I used a plastic scraper to remove the paint. Then I used a hose and a stiff bristled brush to clean it up. I’ve got a couple more areas to do, then I’ll go back and reapply the stripper to the places I missed.

If you need to ship a motor, ULINE makes shipping crates with and without pallets. Their S-13371 works perfectly for a CB750 engine.

$125 including the pallet isn't a bad price for something that can handle 400 lbs.  One issue to be award of is that the container and pallet are 32 lbs -- to be added to the contents for shipping costs.

I purchased the stand separately for $30, and the crate $126. The crate and stand will be making a round trip with a shipper. $460 to ship 1350 miles. Shipping is expensive these days! I’ll reuse the stand and I’m sure the crate will find another home and be reused.

I'm sure you can re-sell the crate on the parts for sale board here along with the stand.

Back to work on the K2! Got my engine back from an extensive rebuild. It had previously been bored to 836 with a cam. Took it back to .50 oversize. Needed new valve guides, intake valves, stock cam, pistons, rings etc. Repairs to stripped parts and cracks fixed on intake ports. Really happy with the way it turned out. Getting it ready to go back into the frame.

I was looking at the one I had all polished up. It looks like someone sanded out some pretty deep scratches on it. The circle lost most of its definition and will be tough to paint. I may polish the ugly one.
