Hello from Lake Tahoe!
« on: January 26, 2022, 12:09:23 PM »
So here my story...my neighbor in Truckee was a very nice guy who passed away last year. He was a bit of a hoarder and he had a 1975/76 (?) CB750F SS that he abandoned 25 years ago after a light crash. Last time it was registered appears to be 1989.

I got the bike from the estate for free and I will try to see if I can restore it (in his honor).
The engine was not seized last time I checked, and the bike is overall very complete and original.
The fuel tank however is badly rusted and I don't think it can be salvaged. So that is going to be the first challenge.
The exhaust has some rust underneath but perhaps can be repaired, I am not sure yet.

I have been starting to read here on this forum and on the Facebook group, and there seems to be tons of owners of CB750K but not too many CB750F0/F1.
The VIN is CB750F2019587 and registered as a 76, but the color is Flake Sunrise Orange, which would indicate a 1975.
I don't know if the cowl/tank may have been changed but they do seem very original to the bike.

Thanks in advance for any info!

(sorry for the bad pictures, I'll post better ones soon)

So just for reference, here is another 1976 with Flake Orange color

https://www.ebay.com/itm/115107556567?hash=item1accf1ecd7%3Ag%3AtZcAAOSwrldhnE0U&nma=true&si=9ojEyoAQEkhMHWIijoAYpvR1QPc%253D&orig_cvip=true&nordt=true&rt=nc&_trksid=p2047675.l2557

I was using this site as a reference but I am wondering if perhaps they are incorrect on the colors for 75/76, as it seems like Flake Orange could have been an option for 76.
Or maybe it was just a trend back then, perhaps people thought Orange was the coolest color...

Howdy!

According to the US Honda Identification book, the colors in 1975 for the 750F were "Flake Sunrise Orange" and "Candy Sapphire Blue". (See attachment)

In 1976 it was "Sulfur Yellow" and "Candy Antares Red".

From the book:
1975 frame starts at CB750F-1000002
1975 engine starts at CB750FE-2500004

1976 frame starts at CB750F-2000003
1976 engine starts at CB750FE-2515094

Cheers

Welcome!  For sure the 75/76 F's are less common on the ground than K bikes.  To make matters worse, the gas tanks are very rust prone and once that rust sets in, very difficult to repair.  But if you have some patience, don't fret.  Eventually, a gas tank can be sourced.
If it works good, it looks good...
