76 750A has no spark - what could it be?
« on: June 25, 2022, 11:33:35 PM »
My 750A has no spark. I'm trying to find some information online but all I see is information related to the K models. Can someone give me some ideas to check please?!

A dirty kill switch can be the culprit but so can bad coils or bad ignition switch.  You'll need to verify where you have power on those items and yes it will be the same on the K or the F models, just different ignition switches.

So I verified that I did NOT have 12v going to the coils. I ran a jumper wire to them - and the motorcycle started right up, leading me to believe the kill switch is exactly the issue.

I however, cannot locate a new one for sale. Am I blind? It doesn't seem like this part is offered anywhere.

Have you cleaned your kill switch?

Thanks for the link. Doesn't look too overly complicated, although the wires ran inside the handlebar are sure to make this less than fun.

Switch the switch back and forth a couple times, making sure to end in the center. Just a thought, mine recently looked on but was bumped a little towards off.

The kill switch grounds out the positive line going to the coils right? If so it sounds like your kill switch line could be shorted to ground somewhere.

So just to update this - I did clean the switch and it didn't help. I tried to place a small pad of solder on the metal contact that meets the two pins - and that kind of helped but the switch wasn't working 100%. I took the top of the old CB750K switch I had - stripped it down and soldered the two wires to it - and now it works great. It unfortunately has the L-H switch on it - that I removed, but at least it works - and the bike now has a kill switch. Drove it for a few miles - discovered the Speedo doesn't work either - so we'll tackle that next.
