Tip: One way to unstick a stuck brake piston...
« on: November 20, 2021, 09:14:18 AM »
I've used all sorts of tools and methods to get a piston unstuck. Here's one tip that may be familiar to old pros but I figured it out on my own. IF you have a wheel bearing removal kit, one of the tools will likely fit inside the piston. Snug it up, give it a few rhythmic pulls and it will come out without much trouble.

You only go around once in life so it might as well be on a motorcycle.

I remove the caliper and hang it in a plastic coffee can before taking the hose off. Then pump it out with the master cylinder. Also does a crack job of flushing the master cylinder out.
I just took a trio of F1 calipers apart using this method, it worked great. I found one nice piston and two pitted ones, ordered some K&L parts from 4-1.
When I put the brake line back on the bike that I used it didn't even need bled and now has some nice clean fluid in the master cyl. I'll also flush that bikes caliper out when this project gets done.
I pumped a piston out with a grease gun today, it worked well. The grease gun thread isn't a perfect match but one thread is all you need.

No matter how many times you paint over a shadow, it's still there.

I also pumped the guts out of a master cylinder with the grease gun and modified a snap ring pliers to fit in a 750 M/C woohoo. Getting it done!
