Honda Ascot

Anybody have one? I know nothing about them.

Local guy selling this very clean, low mileage example.  His shop, equipment, cars  and stuff always look/run well. Giving up riding. He’s asking less than US$1500 and I’m intrigued……. Definitely needs a round headlamp bucket (and I have a few extra)!

There is an Ascot forum that covers both the FT single and the VT twins. It isn't very active, but it has a lot of info:

I had a black 84' VT 500 just like that one. I've also converted a friend's Ascot to a round headlight. It wasn't the easiest conversion. I altered the stock mounts to do it.
They are a fun bike but the 2.5 gallon tank means stopping for gas every 90 miles or so. The bike is narrow, light and has a 6 speed with shaft drive.

Thanks, it took me a while to get it all figured out.

I guess the early singles have somewhat of a following.
Opinion on the twins seems to be kinda meh, but there doesn't seem to be anything really wrong with them.
That one looks pretty nice but it may not go up much in value over time.
How is parts availability?

I had my 84' VT 500 for a few years. It's biggest shortcoming was the 2.5 gallon tank. The power and torque were decent and it is narrow and fairly light. Most didn't like the look of small rectangular headlight. I had a lot of fun commuting on mine but had to go to the gas station every day. 8)

My local mom and pop bike shop owned one, it had a problem with corrosion in the printed circuit board. Do the twins share parts with the shadow?
No matter how many times you paint over a shadow, it's still there.

don't know why everyone's getting all worked up about the headlight, it's of it's era, blends well with the general square edged style of the bike and works just as well as a round one

I converted one of my old 750's to a square headlight and mini bikini fairing, doing that along with a couple of other things got rid of the 'antique' look that 750's are endowed with

Interesting about the small tank…….  I went and had a look. Unfortunately, most of the black paint is “rattle can” and not that well done. The rest of the bike is tidy, and sounds healthy. Walked away and will think on it…..

I've read that they are generally good bikes but not one of Honda's finest products.
