There are a few mishaps here and there where the black crept under the tape, but on the whole I'm more than happy with the outcome.
And the fact that the bike primarily will continue to be used on the dirt and gravel makes the paintjob more than good enough...  :D

Pics of the areas where the black paint crept under the tape.
Not a huge deal, will let the paint cure a bit longer and then try to scrape away the black and reveal the white underneath again... or just leave it as is.

Every time I look at my 2008 Honda Varadero, I wonder what it would be like with all the “extras” stripped off?

I think a slightly worn razor blade will allow you to very slowly trim the over-flow of black off of those areas.  ;)

Painted the tunnel of the tank and the underside of the seat last night.
The paint had hardened nicely in the warmth of the paint booth during the night, so I couldnt resist mounting the parts och the bike  :D
The painting is now done and over with which feels really good, and the best part is that I now can disassemble the paint booth and get my workshop back in working order  ;D

You should send a few photos to some of the custom bike sites, they might be intriguing enough to do an article on it...
Granted, it isn't done yet, but with some cool photos of it parked in its elements that you built it for and a few on some picturesque sites in a town say at a pub that is interesting or near some city square or the like you show it's dual nature.
Just an idea...

Was fortunate enough to see my CB750 in print back in 2006 in one of Swedens main motorcycle magazines which felt great  :D
But that was almost 20 years ago and that particular mag has since perished like many other magazines...
Anyway, we´ll see what will happen and in the mean time I will just enjoy riding and using it  :)

The only thing to attach a plate to is the engine itself, and as the plate would hang under the engine it would decrease the ground clearence and therefore increase the likelyhood of something being hit... and all the force from a hit would be transfered directly to the engine cases.
So no, there will be no skid plate.

And yes, that is my mirror on the left grip.
Its a convex mirror designed as a blind spot mirror for cars that I've fitted on a homemade bracket.
I've used them on my bikes for the last 20 years, and everytime someone notices them the reaction is the same:
"You cant possibly see anything in those!"
I then try to explain that the mirrors and their placement work just fine, but noone will believe it... until they test the bike with them fitted and realise that they really do  :)

I’ve used the same mirror on my race cars. Never thought to try one on my bikes! My red #25 Midget had a three panel wink mirror hidden under the plexiglass windscreen. If you look closely you will see the tiny “blind spot” mirror just poking outside at the end of the screen (driver’s left). Most of the guys I raced with thought a didn’t use mirrors, but I was just searching for the lightest solutions that created the least drag….

As the bike is now completely put together I spent yesterday evening with hanging it from the ceiling again... but this time with engine oil, brake fluid and a full tank of gas.

The goal has been to keep the wet weight under 200 kilos (440.1 lbs), and to find the scale showing 198.8 kilos (438.3 lbs) is somewhat of a small victory :D

Now all that remains is to fire it up after the engine rebuild, and in the best of worlds the startup will NOT yield copious amounts of work... but time will tell.
