Topic: Did my K0 just become a K1 ?????

I still have a lot to learn about these bikes so sorry if this is a newbie question.
 I have my bike ENG. CB750OE-1032169 frame CB750-1031765. Everything that I looked up for this told me that it was a 1970 K0. I have had this for a few weeks but just picked up the title (dated 1974) a few hours ago. Guess what? The title says that it is a 1971.
 I have not heard of a 1971 K0. Are they out there?
 What do I have, and DID THE VALUE OF IT JUST DROP??
 The MFG's serial no. on the title matches. If it makes a difference the mfg. date on the frame tag is 4/70
 I'm almost afraid to ask what it is...by the time I figure it out it may grow to become a K4 or K5.

I would say just by the manufacturer's date of 4-70 that it is a 70. They usually don't move up to the next year until June. There is info somewhere that uses your VIN#'s to find the year. Someone will come along here and tell you for sure what year it is by going off of your numbers. I would trust that more than a dmv goof on the reg. slip.

It may not have been sold until 1974. What does the tag on the headstock say?

 Thanks for the link. I had looked there before and saw that it fell under the K0 but, it doesn't specify any years.
 Has anyone heard of a 1971 K0? Is it now worth less then it would have been as a 1970 K0?
 I was somewhere on the web when I first brought the bike home (don't remember where) and it showed that all of the 1971 bikes were K1's.
 Do you think that people will think that I am trying to sell a fake K0 if it is advertised as a 1971 K0?

My K1 was built in 11/70, and I bought it in 71, so its titled as a 71. People at bike meets have looked at the headstock and told me its a 70. So don't sweat the year, check that S/N list, and look for the styling clues that separate the bikes.

Like I said......there is a cut-off date (I believe June). If you have a 4-70, it should be a 70. If you have an 11-70, it should be a 71. The guy that told you it was a 70 probably just saw the year 70 stamped on your head tag. My VIN plate says 9-74 and it's a 75.

I've had sandcasts which were only made between 4/69 and 11/69 registered as both 1969 and 1970. And K0's registered for both 1969 and 1970. And K1's registerd as 1971 and 1972. Ever notice when you buy a new car in September/October/November/December they come registered for the following year?
Its just one of those things. No biggie.

Not to "pick" that list of frame/engine numbers, but my sandcast has the frame
number stamped into the "left" side of the headstock. The right side had a label
with no frame number on it.

Now you know why the parts guys NEED the serial number to look up parts. Depending on where and when it was first registered, an unsold bike could be titled as about any year. If anybody wants to know what you have, tell 'em the date of manufacture on the tag and let them fight it out!

Here is the frame tag on my sandcast.  Interesting how there is no date of manufacture on it vs the later bikes/tags.

Yep. My CB360T was built near the end of '74 and the year on the title is 1974, yet according to the Honda model guides there wasn't a CB360T until 1975...

I guess it works both ways.

It's not just a state thing.  It's federal, actually, and the reason the feds made manufacturers list both manufactuing and model dates after 1975.  Because, prior to the law, the registered year was equal to the model year, which allowed manufacturers to sell leftover stock as next year's models.  Of course it doesn't affect the actual year, just what the motor vehicle dept thinks it is.
